Behind the fun tour

I did this on the Inspiration and thought it was worth it for a one time deal. The engine control room and bridge are what interested me the most. Not allowed in the actual engine room which is massive and not safe for visitors. We got to meet and talk to the captain who I thought was a great guy. It was only $55 so didn't get much afterwards. Hat, wrist band, picture with the captain, and complimentry plate of snacks that were usually premium items. So as a one time thing I thought it was fine.

It is not on the excursion page. When you board, go directly to the shore tour desk and ask if there are any slots open. Note they may send you to customer services, but don't let that slow you down. Sometimes it doesn't fill up and they will "advertise" in the "Carnival Capers" later in the cruise. Be aware, you must wear closed toes shoes, no skirts, no cameras/recording devices and be able to climb stairs. It is usually done on the last sea day, so plan your schedule accordingly. Note: you cannot pre-purchase it, you can only buy it once you are on the ship. We were very happy we did it.

Read all that AuntPinkie wrote. Also, I saw the signs around the ship on embarkation day and went straight to the shore excursions desk and signed up. For my group it ended up being half the slots. There are I think 16 slots and only 8 of us. You will go up and down steep ladders, meet the captain - really cool guy!, the kitchen area, crew lounge/bar, crew areas, storage areas, engine control room. Remember ZERO cameras or cell phones. They are strict on this. They sent one person back to his cabin to put his phone away. And there was another lady that had a medical device on her and the leader of the tour was a bit paranoid that it might be able to take pictures.

The lady leading the tour is British and at first seemed a bit posh but she's actually super nice and a great people person.

Remember, go straight to the excursions or guest services desk ASAP if you want to do the tour. Spots are limited and there is no telling if they will all fill up quickly or not. The desks are right by each other on deck 7, main atrium. It's the area you arrive in when you first board the ship.

is there any way to book the behind the fun ahead of time my husband and I would really like to do this tour it sounds like so much fun and very interesting

Not that I know of. You must be checked onto the ship before you can book it.

The tour was advertised in the Carnival FunTimes daily flyer that was in our room when we boarded the ship, and it didn't fill up, so it was advertised for another day or two on our last cruise. I agree with the others who suggest going to the Guest Services desk or excursion desk when you first board, to add your husband to the list.

You can't sign up for it until you've boarded the ship. But I wouldn't worry. I don't think it's something that fill up fast. But don't hesitate too long to get to the excursions desk.

What is the cost...and is this company wide...or determined by each ship?

The cost depends on the length of the cruise. Here is the link to more information:
