Bad news about Acapulco

This is from Yahoo News:

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Gunmen killed the leader of Mexico's leftist Democratic Revolution Party in the southern state of Guerrero, authorities said Thursday.

The killing prompted Guerrero's governor to cut short a trip to the United States aimed at convincing cruise ship lines that the state's flagship resort, Acapulco, is safe enough to bring their ships back for visits.

The article continues on to say that some cruise lines are still going to Acapulco.  I wonder who?

Seems to me other ports are just as risky or even more so than Acapulco but cruise lines still go there.  Antigua for example where cruise ship passenger Nina Elizabeth Nilssen was murdered.  Should all the lines start going to Acapulco again or should all stop their visits?

Mexico is useless.  They have few things that support the country.  Trade and cruise ships.  Screw them.  It's a useless sponge.  Couzemel is the only safe place and I'm guessing it will be ruined as well.   USA is sick of Mehico

Many of the folks I know, travel from Canada to Mexico during our winters. The consensus lately has been that aside from certain all inclusive resorts, Mexico is a stay away destination. Safety concerns away from secure areas is the concern.

I will be in Cabo San Lucas next week and will let you know what I think of the "atmosphere" there.  It bothers me when an entire country is labeled as a "stay away destination" because I feel it's a rather huge generalization.  Safety anywhere nowadays is an issue but I still feel safe traveling almost everywhere.

I am in the same sentiment.  Seems some of the Caribbean stops can be more dangerous than Mexican stops but people are still going.

Unfortunately there are shootings and bombings everywhere and you can't be certain that even your own home town is 100% safe. Do you stay home and hide inside your bubble or do you go on with life and treat every day as if it could be your last? I choose the latter, but use street smarts and hope for the best when we travel.

I stay away from Mexico now but then the world is not safe anywhere.  The Pulse Nightclub shootings occurred just 60 minutes from my home.

I live about 2 miles from Nuevo Laredo. Every night there is a major shoot-out and grenade explosions. I would not even think about visiting that city.

OTOH, Cozumel (and many other spots in Mexico) are nice enough.

I am confident that the cruise line would cancel itineraries if their ports were deemed too dangerous.

The cruise lines canceled most of the west coast of Mexico for safety issues back in Feb 2011 when two people were shot in the secured area next to the ported ships in Mazatlan.  I did not go into port that day and was laying out by the pool when I heard the gun shots and decided better to go inside.  Friends that were traveling in our group were getting back to the ship from an excursion,  heard the shots and dropped to the floor of the tour buss he stated  "I was a gunner in Vietnam,   I know the sound of gun shots."

That was the last cruise for NCL and Disney,   RCI had already stopped going to the west coast of Mexico for safety reason.
