We did the Monkey House tour. Got to see some beautiful countryside, and we enjoyed the monkey rescue area. This is not a tour for kids IMO. The spider monkeys will land on you, I could see a child being frightened by the experience Surprised, or a monkey being hurt. It's also a bit more strenuous than advertised (very steep stepping stones/stairs), and I had a hard time making it back up on a hot day.

I'm interested in the replies to this thread since we are going back in July with the kids.

I wanted to do that one too. A lot of people complained because of the long ride. I might like that. My camera would be snapping non stop. LOL

It was really fun. They give you plates of fruit and the spider monkeys land on you and pick through the plate. There are huge rabbits that just laze around and ignore everyone till the monkeys start dropping the food :) There are capuchins (I think) in an enclosure at the bottom of the area. They were a ton of fun to watch, but they are mean suckers. They told us no matter how friendly they seem, DO NOT take their hand. Sure enough, one older female would stick her arm out and give you the sad eyes treatment while holding out a finger. Evidently her end game is to get your finger and bite the crap out of it :)

Posted info on Ocean World but it seems to have disappeared Angry

Well I guess it's lost at sea - photos and all! We went to Ocean World in Amber Cove via the Princess Excursion that included Day Pass and transportation (approx $50). You walk from show to show in this small park to see birds/parrots/toucans, dolphins, sea lions, sharks etc. Each exhibit has a show about every 30 minutes so its easy to go from place to place and not a difficult walk. There was a beach area and waterslide but weather was bad. Great place for kids! You can swim with dolphins, snorkel, feed sharks etc but keep in mind this is "small scale" and you may want to do those things at better ports.

There is also a free pool / bar with waterslide right at the pier which would have contented me if I had not taken an excursion.

The kids would love this!! Thanks for the info :)

I'd priced it both ways (on my own and via the ship) and went with the ship due to time frame getting back. Amber Cove had had quite a bit of rain right before we got there and the pier area was pretty "muddy" looking ... However, the beach pool area would be wonderful on a sunny day.

Ocean World is super for kids but just know it is not your typical "American attraction" supersized and touristy ... it's small, highly interactive and fun ... follow the program / map schedule they give you and it's perfect timing to make each show and move from place to place!

Thanks! I had wanted to take them to the turtle farm on Grand Cayman. Since we couldn't do that itinerary this year, this'll be a great substitute.

Several kids did participate in the "shows" as volunteers ... so get front row seats if you can! Enjoy!

I went to Amber Cove and took a tour to Puerto Plata. It was very interesting. I bought a unique ring there You can flip it over from Laramar to Amber. I wanted to go to the beach but there wasn't enough time as the beach was a cab ride away.
