After the Pier Runners... Missing the ship

Was bored and looking around different sites tonight. I came across this one about what happens when you Miss your cruise ship (of course this is after you are to be checked in during Embarkation)

I didn't know that they will go to the room and look for your passport and leave it with someone at the pier... That was new for me.

That was news to me also, but it makes sense.

30 minutes prior to departure, on Princess they begin calling the rooms, starting with couples where one has returned and the other has not.  I learned this first hand in Victoria when my son and another group of friends had not returned but I had way earlier. (They were delayed due to a taxi accident) They asked me for his cell phone number and if he had his passport with him. They then said no worries, they would call me back in 25 minutes if he had not boarded.  (The group he was with told us later that there was a message on their answering machine.)

Every cruise line has a port agent.  They help you get on your merry way.

i suggest a generous tip

Interesting.  We knew about cruise line-sponsored excursions not leaving passengers behind because we had to deal with this exact scenario in Barcelona when our tour bus broke down on the way to the ship... but did not know anything about the ship's agent role or the passport retrieval. Thanks for posting.

My Pleasure! I knew if you were with a cruise sponsored excursion they wont leave you, but for those just out and about....

Some of the photos and videos are so funny of passengers who missed their cruise, but not so funny for those on land watching their ship leave.  Nice to know from this  link that they leave their passports for the hapless passengers.  You would think that most passengers would have their passports with them in a foreign port.
