10 day Mediterranean cruise aboard Holland America ms Koningsdam April 21-May 1

Anyone out there going to the 10 day Mediterranean cruise aboard Holland America ms Koningsdam on April 21st through May 1st?  This is our first time cruising Europe, and we're a bit intimidated.  Worried about transportation from the airport into Rome, and Rome into cruise port.  Anyone done this and have any advice?

Don't be worried. We have done that a number of times. We always use the cruise line transfers. Sure nice to have them there with a sign and your name, waiting for you. It was particularly nice once in Rome when the connecting carrier lost all our bags, to have someone there who represented you, spoke the lingo and could use muscle on the right people.

I have cruised on the ms Koningsdam and the ship is lovely.  Lots of music.  I, too, would suggest using the ship's transfers.  The port is quite a distance from the city.

We couldn't buy a transfer from Holland America, because we were going into Rome for a few days before the cruise, so it wasn't available.  Trying to decide between taxi and Uber

That brings up an interesting point or question. I know that we have booked independent air before and Princess has sold us an airport to hotel transfer. However, the hotel was booked through Princess. We have done this up to four days before embarkation. Sometimes Princess has had to work with the hotel to get us extra days though, their standard package is usually one or two days. I've talked to people who have gotten the transfer 5 days prior.  It is my understanding, however, if we had independent hotel, we couldn't get a Princess transfer. They claim they are set up to drop off and pick up at select hotel locations only.
