Allure of the Seas

June 2014 - Allure of the Seas to Caribbean - Western

good for families

This is a good cruise for families with some warnings.

The Good: This ship is unique and a destination all in itself.  The kids and teens programs were very well done.  younger kids didn't want to leave their adventure area, and the teens were always busy with sports, nite activities, and beach parties.  For the little ones, and the little ones at-heart, there was always someone running around... Shrek or Fiona, perhaps Panda or a Viking.  and good "g" shows (ice, water, movies) as well as dances, kerioque, comedy, Chicago broadway, etc for the adults, all very professional.

The Average:  The food.  While way better than Carnival, the food fell short of such lines as Celebrity and Holland.  The kids always had something they liked (pizza, pasta and chicken fingers) and i usually had a nice meal in Main but when I wanted and expected a good steak...  I should have gone to a speciality restaurant, not the main dining room.  The windjammer food was just adequate,  the asian-fusion inspired lunches in the Solarium were limited in choice.

The Bad:  WARNINGS: there were Age,Height,Weight Restrictions for such things as the zip-line and wave pools.  This was not posted on the ship's web pages, (if it was, it sure wasn't made clear or visible).  I selected this ship because of the onboard activites, only to have my 8 1/2 year old highly disappointed day 1, when she was confronted with these restrictions and didn't meet them.  The rest of us passed on doing these so as not to make her feel any worse.

Warning:  their Island - Ladabee.  Of course one expects this to be another method of seperating you from more of your money, and it was, but still one expects honesty and consistancy.  Specifically, I note that onboard ship, the written promo for activities stated $22 for all-day for the dragon rollercoaster/bobsled ride.  But at the ticket booth onshore, we were charged $22 per ride, given a wristband which was cut off by attendents once seated in the sled, to ensure we didn't go again!

Comfort Warning: on Ladabee, wear watershoes into the water.  it's very rocky.
