Norwegian Getaway

July 2016 - Norwegian Getaway to Caribbean - Western

Great ship and great ports!

This was our second time on the NCL Getaway.  Really love this ship.  So much to do and so many restaurants to choose from.  Definitely need to book your restaurants ahead of time, or first day on the ship, because the good times fill up fast.  I think people book all the good times and never show up because only time we could go to the Cagney's steak house was at 5:45pm and when we got there, we saw plenty of empty tables.  I suggest if you can't get the time you want, just walk up to the hostess and there will probably be tables.  Love the Cagney's steak house, and the Teppanaki Japanese restaurant.  Also loved the noodle bar.  Definitely go there.  Items are alacarte and cheap.  Delicious.  One great feature about the NCL Getaway is the Garden Café, on deck 15, for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  They have it figure out.  No lines anywhere.  Other ships should check this deck out.  You can walk around both sides and you don't have those long lines you have on Carnival or Royal Caribbean.  Love it.  And so many choices.  One complaint I have about the Getaway is you can never get in the comedy club.  You have to book that ahead of time too.  Always full.  I enjoy the late night comedy clubs on all ships, but you can't get into this one.  Stupid.  and room is too small.  I think people book ahead for this one too and don't show up.  You can't beat the Carnival George Lopez Comedy Club.  Big room for everyone.  Great show.  The Staterooms on this ship are plenty big.  Only complaint about the rooms are they don't have a drawer anywhere to throw all your stuff.  Took away the drawer space for a fridge that they charge you for every item.  gotta make that money I guess.  All and all, the Getaway is a great ship.  Western Caribbean has great ports of call.  Great cruise.

Carnival Breeze

November 2014 - Carnival Breeze to Caribbean - Western

fall cruising

My wife and I have been cruising on Carnival Lines for many years with 11 cruises. The Breeze is a nice ship, well laid out, and easy to get around. Our only issue was the quality of the food. The meals in the main dining room were unimaginative and most often not hot when served. The buffet on the Lido deck has its own set of issues. There appears to be no way to avoid a long line to get even the most basic things. The hours of operation seem to be shorter than other Carnival ships. We heard many people with the same complaints. Other than the food issue the cruise was fun with lots to do. The shore excursions were interesting and reasonably priced. We will cruise with Carnival again but will think twice about the Breeze

Carnival Glory

July 2013 - Carnival Glory to Canada, New England, New York

Boston to Canada 7 day cruise

We had a wonderful cruise from Boston up into Canada on July 21, 2013. We have always wanted to do this cruise, and it did not dissapoint us. Only downfall was the fog. Couldn't use the pool deck very much. So foggy! The rooms on Carnival are so nice and roomy. Much bigger rooms than on Royal Caribbean or Norweigan ships. Love all of the closet and shelf space for clothes. (Royal Caribbean rooms have no shelf space at all!) I do bring metal hangers, cuz there aren't enough for 2 of you. Only downfall about the rooms is there is only one electrical outlet. Once you have a balcony, you'll never go without one! It's definately worth the extra money. The food was fantastic the entire ship. We ate in the main dining room every night and the 5 of us had a great meal every night. No complaints. Lots of choices for breakfast and lunch on the lido deck. We actually ate very healthy! So many salads and fresh fruit! Loved the mexican station and the fresh paninis in the deli station. Delicious! Comedians in the late night club were great. Always caught that show every night. Great way to end the night. The new serenity lounging areas for adults only are wonderful. Couldn't have been more relaxing. And NO KIDS! Loved it! Did the Duck tour in Portland, Maine and Halifax, NS. What a fantastic way to see the city! Definately reccomend that! Then you still have plenty of time for shopping. I don't care what people say, I love Carnival. We cruise every year and love it! Can't wait to plan our next one!

flakeyscruiser's Tips

Norwegian Getaway Norwegian Getaway - Book your specialty restaurants ahead of time, or first day on the ship. The good times fill up first. And book the comedy club. That's always a good show. And definitely book the Illusionarium one night. It is fabulous! It's a dinner show too. You will be amazed on the things they do!
Cozumel, Mexico - Dont be afraid to explore here. Dont limit yourself to the downtown or near ship shopping areas
George Town, Grand Cayman - Be flexable here. If there are lots of ships in port the few attractions will be crowded and not as much fun
Ocho Rios, Jamaica - Try a lunch at the Jerk Center. Its a local place 5 minutes from the ship with good food and live music
Carnival Breeze Carnival Breeze - Give yourself extra time when planning to eat. There are often long lines and few seats.Tell your server at the main restaurants to make sure your meal is hot or it will not be.
Portland, Maine - Wonderful seaport. Gotta have a lobsta roll and chowda!
Sydney, Nova Scotia - Took the double decker pink bus tour. Very imformative. Beautiful covered bridges.
Carnival Glory Carnival Glory - Try to book your cabin in the middle of the ship or towards the back. The food is on the Lido deck, towards the back of the ship, so you just hop on the elevator and head up for coffee in the morning. Bring it back to your balcony and wait for everyone to wake up. Couldn't be more peaceful.
