Radiance of the Seas

July 2015 - Radiance of the Seas to Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Get ready to be Spoiled at the Radiance of the Seas!

The excellent overall VIP service. The dining was superb. We enjoyed breakfast and snacks at Windjammer, pool side, and loved the Sausage stall. The bartenders - Nestor and the Centrum staff were great. Our room was kept clean at all times. Our room service person, Macbeth, made us feel at home at all times. He even made sure our ice bucket was full every day.

The best experience thus far that exceeded our expectations were the Cascade dining staff and the excellent food & wine selection. The entire staff from the front desk, our waiter (Eduardo), our assistant waiter (Jefferson), and our head waiter (Ferrit) were the best. They treated us like VIP and surprised us with Filipino dishes during dinner and even at one of our breakfast dining.

The entertainment director, Amy was awesome and the performers were just the best. She greeted everyone as though they were family and so did the captain.

The facilities, entertainment, and overall quality of the ship was great. It was not the biggest ship in the fleet but worth cruising with.

erwinchiong's Tips

Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska - If you like the zipline adventure, it's worth taking. It's a 1 mile line (longest in the world) and as high as the empire state building. It takes 45 mins to get there and 90 mins to get down. If you plan to do kayaking during June-Aug, expect to see whales. You can either take the kayak adventure of 4 hours that will go to killer whales and humpback whales or to the other side of the island with a strong chance of seeing a local humpback. I saw one 200 yards from my kayak, which was the 2 1/2 hour ride. The best excursion so far.
Juneau, Alaska - Make sure to visit the Mendenhall Glacier and Nugget falls. It's only a $12 shuttle which you can get right outside the ship. No need to prebook an excursion. It will take only 2-3 ours back and forth. If you want the additional experience, do the dog sledding either on land (via shuttle) or on the Glacier (via helicopter).
Skagway, Alaska - We did the zipline with rock climbing and rappelling. It was worth it. If you're the adventurous type, book this excursion. There is also a train that goes to Canada. We did not take it but I we were told that it had great sceneries.
Radiance of the Seas Radiance of the Seas - Don't be afraid to ask your dining staff for extra meals for surprise dishes that are not in the menu. They will service you. If you do plan to buy wine bottles every night, we suggest you buy the wine deal.
