Enchantment of the Seas

April 2016 - Enchantment of the Seas to Caribbean - Bahamas

Great Cruise

Checking in was fairly easy. There were a lot of crowds up at the Windjammer upon check in and a bit of confusion, requiring us to to stand as we ate and waited for our room to be ready. Other than that, it really was a great cruise. Smooth water, great weather and a very cordial staff. Our room attendant was amazing as were the waiters in the My Fair Lady dining room. The food was good to very good, nothing great, but nothing bad either. Coffee overall was great too. They were not strict with dress code, plenty of shorts and T-shirts in the dining room, but we dressed up casually each night and felt it was more appropriate.

I think the beauty of this cruise is the size and length of trip. Just enough to feel comfortable, not too big to get lost. Just long enough to relax, but not so long that you felt you were ready for home. The staff was friendly with smiles all around. The room was small, but typical of moderate priced room (2nd floor window view). Wish we had a balcony but none were available at time of booking (last minute). Cocoa Cay was beautiful, relaxing and filled with many fish that came right to your feet in the shallow beach water. It was nice that they served a BBQ buffet right there off the beach allowing guests to spend more time on the island.

We did the Dolphin excursion at the Sandals Island in Nassau, but I will say it was not organized at Senior Frogs at the pick up point. We were left standing in the sun for 45 minutes with no tour guide to get us at the designated meeting spot and time. We ended up missing our ferry and had to catch a later tour, which defeated the purpose of getting there before the other ship based tours came in to beat the crowds. It was still nice, but we felt rushed, not a Royal Caribbean sponsored excursion, so I would not subtract from the rating here. My advice, just get the tour on the boat and you likely will have an easier time with it. The experience was great, shallow water encounter with a Dolphin.

The activities were fun on the boat, the kids camp was nice when the adults wanted a break and there was always something to do.

Check out was a bit confusing as well and I wish I knew more detail on times and where we needed to go (not clear in the daily Compass handout). We ended up waiting unnecessarily in the theater for 30 minutes for them to call our baggage number. Time that could have been spent either eating a more leisurely breakfast  or up on the deck to get some last minute sun. We would still do this cruise again in a heart beat.

dschwartz000's Tips

Cococay (Cruiseline's Private Island) - They serve a full lunch BBQ buffet. No need to buy bottled water on the boat to bring to the beach as lemonade, Iced tea and filtered water are provided for free. Save a hotdog bun to feed the fish, they will swarm out by your feet and eat.
Nassau, Bahamas - Be prepared to be bombarded when leaving the ship for a cab or some deal at the market outside the cruise terminal. Ignore and keep walking. Best shopping on Bay St.
Enchantment of the Seas Enchantment of the Seas - Rather than run up to the Windjammer upon entering the ship, instead, take a walk around the boat to get accustomed to the layout. You can always head back there after 1:00 when most rooms are ready and the crowds begin to clear out.
