February 2016 - Carnival Fantasy to Caribbean - Western
The ship had mechanical problems, and changed itineraries the day before our sail date. We were going to Key West and Cozumel and they took us to Freeport and Nassau Bahamas instead. We were told it basically couldn't go fast enough to make it to our destination and back. They did offer a full refund of the cruise if you wanted to cancel, but not for the plane ticket, time off work, etc.. We got to the port early, like 12 Noon instead of 3. We didn't mind waiting a few hours, but the ship was so late getting into port, that we didn't get on the ship until 9pm and we were in zone 1. They didn't even feed us, but did offer bus transportation to a shopping area with food (for us to spend our money on). That was because there was not enough room in the cruise port to hold all the guests. We then left the port late, like almost midnight. Muster Station Safety Instruction Drill was held in smoking bar, and we had no choice. (I have asthma) Then we went to deck, and our leader disappeared. We had a window room which was filthy the entire cruise, so our view was drastically obscured, and definitely disappointing. Our room AC was stuck on frozen all nights but the last one. Guest services wouldn't answer the phone when we tried to call. The carpet was dirty in our room. The room was small considering it was a window room. We left Freeport late, once again due to mechanical issues. We weren't even sure we would make it to our next destination, so we didn't sign up for shore excursions until the following morning and when we tried, they were sold out. Mini-Golf was joke. There were only a few gold balls, and the staff didn't even care when we asked. They didn't have any more. There was No Midnight Buffet. Our service the last night at dinner was very very slow. Other nights were great. Art show staff was great and knowledge, but the show was small, and champagne was served almost at the end. The morning we got off the ship, breakfast stations opened late, and didn't have a sign telling us what time they would open. It was later than posted time in Debarkation flyer though. Most of the staff was nice, but not impressed with servers at Guys Burgers, Pizza, and Burrito bar we not very friendly at all. Food was okay, but dessert options were mostly the same every night at a dinner. Ice cream was good, but they ran out of cones and no staff around to restock. Pizza was okay, but not as good as when we were on the Carnival Glory several years ago. Pedicure was awesome, better than at home. Massage was great. We were celebrating our anniversary, so after my husband complained, they did give us a $50 gift card for the spa, and a $25 gift card for Wine. This is my 4th Cruise with Carnival, and certainly the worst. Big disappointment. Will be trying another cruise line next time.
