Regal Princess

February 2017 - Regal Princess to Caribbean - Eastern

Exceptional food and shows. Missed staircase midship.

Amazing chef. We are experienced cruisers and not easily impressed but this was close to 5 star dining in the main dining rooms.

Ship is lovely except for the odd layout. There is no main staircase midship except between decks 5 and 7 in the 3 story open Piazza. . So if you prefer  a midship cabin  ( we do ) you are obliged to spend too much time waiting for the elevator, just to go up or down a deck or two...or walk the length of the ship to the forward and aft staircases dodging around service carts etc in the halls to access a staircase.

Staff was well trained, attentive and personable throughout the ship.

Shows were top notch.

Brilliance of the Seas

April 2014 - Brilliance of the Seas to Caribbean - Western

Pleasant and relaxing

We never expect a lot from a 4 day cruise but this one was a pleasant surprise!

The ship is lovely with  ocean views from just about everywhere, even the elevators.

Best use of the Centrum area we have seen. They have all types of good live music, from classical to country,  going on there during the day and it was a lovely spot to sit and have a drink, dance, or just listen. The music drifts pleasantly up through to the upper decks of the centrum atrium.

Because it is a 2000 ish passenger ship, it doesn't feel crowded and we could always find a place at one of the pools to relax in the sun ( or shade) .  The crew was very friendly and accommodating from the captian right down to the washroom attendant. Our stateroom attendant, John, was the "invisible man"  - and that is what suits us best! Our  room was perfectly made up every day, fresh  ice in the bucket etc, like magic.

If you like to meet new people, try MY TIME dining and ask to be seated with others. "Greta" did a great job of getting us a reservation daily at whatever time we preferred. The food was not gourmet but quite acceptable in both the main dining room and the Windjammer and we met a lot of interesting people.

Singers and dancers were not as good as on the longer cruises but they were pleasantly entertaining and the headliners were very good.

My only suggestions would be that the main pool area could be better kept.  There were strategically placed towel bins and carts for used drink glasses but there were just too many towels and used drink glasses lying around. Sometimes  it was hard to tell if folks were using a lounge or not. Perhaps we were just travelling with a lot os sloppy folks?

Would take this cruise again in a heartbeat.

diannegleeson's Tips

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata), Dominican Republic - The cruise port, Amber Cove, is lovely. New and spotless ...a Disney sort of "town". We took a "panoramic" side trip into Puerto Plata - a staggering contrast. Educational (!) but would not do it again as a vacation option.
Regal Princess Regal Princess - Buffet dining gets very busy at the more traditional meal hours ie: 8 AM and 12 Noon. You will probably need to share a table then. We are OK with that but if you don't, plan to dine earlier or later or go to one of the Dining rooms that are open for breakfast or lunch service.
Basseterre, St. Kitts - Side trip to sugar plantation and Fort was fun. Govt is spending money to attract tourists. Nice new small tour buses with very professional tour guides. Agatha was excellent.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - Excursion to St John via ferry and open air taxi was very enjoyable. Tour guide, Brian, on the ferry could be a stand up comedian. Gave us lots of history and information on the islands and was most entertaining in the process. St John is a beautiful island that is 2/3 National Park.
