Norwegian Getaway

February 2019 - 7 Night Western Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

Getaway is a big ship with lots of people but small balcony staterooms with tiny balconys. Rug needed to be replaced but room otherwise clean and kept so by a very good steward. Pool area is small due to all the other stuff on that deck. We could only find lounges in the upper, unshaded deck areas. Too many "reserved" lounges in better areas. There really needs to be an answer for lounge hogs. Getaway is a good ship for kids. We enjoyed the MDRs. Thought the food and service was good. Make reservations though which is easy to do using the NCL phone app which is very good. You can track your account, check all activities, make reservations, etc. anywhere at anytime. Buffet just OK but "linear" layout is chaotic. Here's a tip: go to MDR for lunch on first day, buffet was a zoo. We enjoyed the Cocina and the Cirque but view from the cheaper seats, booths actually, was difficult but we had no choice as they "put" us where they wanted. Go early if you paid for floor seating. Thought the staff was very good overall and mostly attentive and friendly. Embarkation went quite well but finding luggage on disembarkation was needlessly chaotic and wait for transfer bus loading was too long in the sun. Our comparison for this review is to Celebrity Silhouette and Star Princess both we would rate higher. We are retired couple cruising without kids.
