Carnival Pride

January 2017 - Carnival Pride to Caribbean - Western

A very enjoyable cruise!

Overall, we had a very enjoyable time.  We were very pleased with the destinations and with the excursions we selected.  We have been on the Carnival Pride a number of time, so we were quite familiar with the ship's layout, and we were pleased to find that Carnival had done a good job in keeping the ship looking new and in good condition.

On the down side, we weren't "wowed" by the food or the entertainment.  While both were pretty good, we didn't feel that the quality was good as what we experienced in past cruises.

Grandeur of the Seas

December 2015 - Grandeur of the Seas to Caribbean - Bahamas

A Great Way To Spend Christmas!

All in all we had a very enjoyable cruise.  Every member of the ship's staff that we encountered was very pleasant, upbeat and helpful, especially our cabin Steward, Igede.   The food was good, although we thought that the menu selections on some nights was limited.  We dined one night at Chops, and that was outstanding!  They offered a wide variety of entertainment, and all of it was interesting and enjoyable.  The ship was well decorated for the Christmas holiday, and with the carol singing and Santa handing out gifts on Christmas morning, it made for quite a festive trip.  We also enjoyed the day in Nassau and at Key West.

The only issue we had was when we tried to rent a cabana on Coco Cay.  We completed the rental agreement, but a day before we were to arrive at Coco Cay, we received a note saying that we could not get a cabana, as they were only available to guests who were serviced by the concierge.  After we expressed our displeasure, the excursions manager took several actions to compensate us for the inconvenience and the misunderstanding.  While the experience was disappointing, we felt that the management did try to do what they could to provide some satisfaction.

We would consider trying this type of cruise again in the future.

dad67's Tips

Cozumel, Mexico - The new Mayan Ball Game, Mexican Show and lunch was a pleasant addition to the excursion list.
Carnival Pride Carnival Pride - Like on any cruise, alcoholic drinks are quite expensive, but if you plan to order more that one at any given time, you will find that, with many drinks, you can order a double for only an additional $3.
Belize City, Belize - Belize is somewhat rundown in appearance once to leave the port area. We took the river cruise, and that was pretty good. We were fortunate to see a couple of crocodiles, some monkeys and a number of iguanas. But, if you are looking to see manatees, forget it. They barely break the surface of the water to get air, which makes them difficult to see in a low boat.
Tampa, Florida - Tampa is a good port to sail from, but the area along the front street gets very congested, as passengers are leaving and arriving in the same area.
Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras - This was a new location for us, and we were pleased with the Pirates, and Monkeys of the Caribbean excursion, although there wasn't much involving pirates. Everyone enjoyed having parrots and monkeys sitting on their shoulders and heads - a great photo op. Kids especially will love the up close and personal experience. One note - the road running to and from the location is in terrible shape. The bus driver did his best to avoid potholes, but sometimes it's impossible.
George Town, Grand Cayman - George Town is a nice town to walk around in, and the Cayman Island tour is pretty good, but they thrive on tourism, so it can get quite congested.
Cococay (Cruiseline's Private Island) - The cabanas are not even on the beach. The water is very shallow, so you have to go out quite a ways before you can even get in up to your waste! And, when the tide goes out, it is even worse.
Port Canaveral, Florida - Not much of a stop unless you want to try to spend a few hours at Disney World of Universal. However, if you are lucky enough to be in port during a space launch the view is spectacular from the deck of the ship!
Key West, Florida - A very enjoyable place to visit. Many places to shop or eat, and the excursion trolleys provide good access to most parts of the island.
Baltimore, Maryland - Easy access to and from I 95. The port does a good job in getting you on and off of the ship.
Grandeur of the Seas Grandeur of the Seas - If you can afford the extra $35 per person, we highly recommend trying the Chops restaurant.
