Crown Princess

March 2016 - Crown Princess to Mexico

Crown Princess

Traveled to Cabo, Mazatlan, and Puerto Vallarta. The trip down was smooth sailing, coming back was bumpier. The ship is 10 years old and for the most part looks good. Some areas though show its age

The staff had too many rude, snappy, with I don't care attitudes. Worst of all ships I have been on. So many that I took to auto tip off and paid cash to those that earned a tip.

The internet was extremely slow-slowest of all ships I've been on. Too often lost internet connection messages came up.

Room C624 is under the room service galley and things were rolling and banging all night. Do not take that room. Customer service didn't or wouldn't do anything to help out. Food was OK in the main dining room but out server was very slow. We had a table for 2 but it still took 2+ hours to get dinner over with. The upstairs buffet wasn't that great. We encounter very few lines for breakfast and lunch and table are hard to find at times. Breakfast was the best at the buffet. If you have been on Princess before the food choices are about the same.

because of the noisy room and attitudes of the staff this cruise was much worse then anticipated. You will not get any help from customer service if you have problems like we did.

Norwegian Sun

September 2015 - Norwegian Sun to Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

norw. sun

This was the 2nd part of round trip Vanc. to Seward and back. We had to change rooms and we carried our luggage from deck 4 to 10. The entertainers weren't as good as the up trip. The room across the hall from us had the sprinkler in the ceiling go off and flooded their room, the hall was wet for a couple of days until they got it dried off. We were supposed to go to Sawyer glacier but it was raining and the captain decided not to go up the fjord to the glacier and instead just sat out in the main channel until it was time to go to the next port. Hubbard glacier was the first stop and the captain didn't get as close to the glacier as he did on the way up even though there wasn't much ice in the way.

The room attendant cane in once in the afternoon and again late at night. He said they only work certain hours and not all day. We met several rude workers on this trip. They seem like they didn't want to be on the ship. The buffet on deck 11 was only so-so. Breakfast was better than lunch. The bacon however was always under cooked for my taste. The way the buffet is laid out leaves some very tight spaces for passage when many people are eating. They have soft and hard serve ice cream. They have 2 pools and 4 hot tub with only one with working jets.

The room was an inside and seemed bigger than most ships that I have been on. A queen bed with a separate sofa area. The TV was small. It had a fridge and hair dryer. The shower water temp kept fluctuating from hot to cool and back.. Overall the room was good.

The cruise staff seemed to have more activities on board and for the most part very friendly.

Norwegian Sun

August 2015 - Norwegian Sun to Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Norwegian sun

getting on board was confusing. You had to check in upstairs first but noo ne said anything until we got to the end of the building and was then told we had to go back to the front and go upstairs to check in then came back there. The food in the buffet on deck 11 was pretty much the same things everyday. It wasn't all that great. The main dining rooms didn't have very good choices. It's a good thing they had salmon on the everyday menu because that was the best thing on the whole menu. They have no lobster tail, shrimp, or most of the name steaks. Those have all been moved to the pay extra dining rooms. There were no formal nights, so good levis and shirt is all that you need unless you want to dress up anyhow. The cabin boy was never prompt in cleaning the room. Usually done around 2pm and then late in the evening. One night he wanted to com in after 9 pm and wanted to clean, but we didn't want to leave. We ended up taking a shower and straightening our own bed for the night. The ship is old but for the most part kept up good. Our room was an inside and had plenty of room with a sofa bed included. We did hear of a coupe of rooms which flooded-one from the drains backing up and soaking the floor, the other was the sprinkler in the room broke and showered the room with water. Deck 6 has plenty of room to walk around the ship, although in the front almost always had standing water you had to walk through. They never seemed to clean the water off the walkway. Overall the food seems to be better on other cruise lines that we have been on. The cruise staff was good and had sever activties to do..

cwhansen's Tips

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - they seem to be the best price for souvenirs. They have a nice beach right next to the ship behind the hotels-a couple minutes walk
Juneau, Alaska - a couple of stores acted like they didn't want to sell you anything.
Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska - saw many whales from the ship. People who paid for whale watching tours actually came back out by the ship. We saw them as well or better than the tours. This port uses tenders to get to shore. Not much on land here.
Cruise Hubbard Glacier - The captain didn't want to get up very close the the glacier. On the trip up he got a lot closer
Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska - Where the ship anchored (tender service here) there were several whales swimming near the ship. Whale watching tours actually came back out by the ship to watch the same whales.
Cruise Sawyer Glacier - it was raining so the captain didn't even go attempt to go up the fjord. Just sat out in the water until time to turn around and head to Skagway
