October 2015 - 7 Night Southern Caribbean (San Juan Roundtrip) Cruise on Celebrity Summit

All the little things

It was a pleasure cruising on a line that still values the little things:  a shrimp cocktail fork with your shrimp cocktail, a news digest every day, a Captains party where the Captain actually shakes everyone's hand, an opportunity for a picture with the Captain, chocolates on the bed each night.  Those things have been gone from several cruise lines for a while now, but not Celebrity.  Even though the ship is headed for dry dock early next year, it was still in good shape.  The mixology class offered by the bar staff is not to be missed.  Three of us had a private class taking over the Casino Bar and actually going behind the bar to learn how to make a great cocktail.  The highlight of our cruise!

A week in the Retreat is a treat!

It was our 10th anniversary so we wanted to be pampered and relax together.  We reserved a private cabana in the Retreat (Deck 11).  In 7 days, we left for 2 hours in Grand Cayman and 2 hours in Cozumel because the cabana experience was so fantastic!  We even cancelled a lunch reservation in Key West because we didn't want to miss a minute.  Joseph and Ed were fantastic stewards and served us everything we asked for.  They deliver breakfast, lunch, ice cream, and our favorite:  champagne and chocolate covered strawberries at about 3 each day.  It was a quiet, adult area where we could enjoy reading, conversing, and...eating.  Combining that with a couples massage and other spa treatments, it was a perfect cruise for rediscovering each other.

The cabanas are so popular, you really need to reserve one for the entire week right after you book your cruise. The Retreat area is slightly more expensive but it is much more private and quiet.

Roseau, Dominica

For the third time, we took the Caribbean cooking class. It gets more and more popular each time. Fun and hands-on.

Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas

Enjoyed Cuzzins Restaurant for mango drinks and a Caribbean lunch. It is 2 blocks back off the bay street on a street known as Back Street.

Fort-De-France, Martinique

We did not take an excursion here. There is nothing to do in the pier area. In the future, we would take an excursion or stay on the ship and enjoy.
