Disney Fantasy

August 2013 - Disney Fantasy to Caribbean - Western

Best Cruise Ever!

Would definitely sale with Disney again. The Western Caribbean itinerary stopped at Grand Cayman, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Disney's Castaway Cay. My favorite ports were Grand Cayman and Castaway Cay. Grand Cayman - recommend taking the Stingray City Reef Sail and Snorkel excursion. It was the best excursion of our entire cruise. You sail out on a catamaran with a great crew. Once at the reef, you can jump from the boat into the water which is filled with stingrays and tropical reef fish. Definitely a must see!! Costa Maya - not worth going beyond the port. Once out of the fenced in port, the surrounding area is extremely dirty and unsafe. We went snorkeling off the beach at Overo Beach. The excursion advertised snorkeling off the beach - but once there, we found out our snorkel location was swimming through a hurricane-destroyed dolphin pen. Snorkeling over nails, sunken fence and storm garbage-turned reef was less than scenic, not to mention dangerous. We saw a huge puffer fish but that was the extent of the tropical see life to be seen. The water was murky and they made you walk through the underwater sea grass before letting you put your fins on. Also, the snorkels they provided stunk so bad, it was unbelievable. Luckily, we brought our own. Also, the little gift shop on-site at the beach was pushy and filled with sexually explicit figurines. NOT FOR FAMILIES. Cozumel - no comment. Castaway Cay - Wonderful paradise. Everything is what you expect Disney to offer. With one important exception - Sea Lice. Swimming in the areas where the water stagnates is filled with sea lice, and I suspect tiny jelly fish. We got stung and bit, along with many other fellow guests. The itching lasted for weeks even though the cast members said warm water would wash them away. As for the ship and crew - it was magnificent. Our stateroom was great and our steward was attentive. The food was above average ship food, with the exception of the desserts. They were nothing exceptional. (No dessert on this ship could compare to Carnival's Chocolate Melting Cake.) The best restaurant was the Animator's Palate...for food and fun. The kids clubs were awesome and if I could have would have stayed to play there with my daughter. The investigative games that take you around the ship from magic artwork to magic artwork are super fun. The ship has two huge movie theaters on board, and we got to see the prem-ear of "Planes". That was a fun experience. The pools are too small for the ship's capacity and the aquaduck is more exciting to watch on Disney's website than to ride. There is no music like in their video and the lines can be long - and hot! The stage shows were great, but the cruise director acted a little ghetto at times and did not demonstrate the impartiality that I expect from Disney. I think the entertainment experience would be better with a new cruise director. The ship was clean and the staff were always friendly and accommodating. Overall the cruise was wonderful; and I will definitely sail with Disney again.

cruisin4fun's Tips

Disney Fantasy Disney Fantasy - You can get 2 items per stateroom signed by the characters and captain if you leave them with guest services. I didn't realize you could do this until I was out of time, but will do this next cruise. You have to leave the markers to sign with the object - ie. pillow case with the fabric markers, etc
