Liberty of the Seas

January 2013 - Liberty of the Seas to Caribbean - Western

Great ship, but did lack in a few areas

This was our 4th cruise. Cruised on the following ships: 3.5 star Carnival Fantasy, 3.5 star RCI Enchancement of the Seas, 4 star MSC Poesia. By far this was the nicest ship. Very modern and clean. Not enough elevators, did a lot of walking up and down stairs (that can be good or bad depending on what you like (14 decks total). Diinning hours were not convenient for us. On all past cruises there was always a place to eat a full meal with many food choices. Liberty of Seas had a hour or two during the day when the only choices were finger sandwiches, cookies and desserts. Then another hour of the same plus a couple choices of pizza and few meditteranean salad choices. I like the idea of having a back up plan for eating a full meal at anytime. We ate the free offerings everytime with the exception of a one time Johnny Rockets. Johnny Rockets was Great, service was great and it only cost $4.95 all you can eat. They start you off with Onion Rings and Fries right when you sit down. Onion rings were right out of the fryer crisp and delicious. Burger meat was nothing like the burgers they served at the buffett. Great burger! The double decker burger and onion rings were all i could eat, but still well worth the $4.95 (includes tip). All other dinning options were average. Normally on cruises there are a few items that you eat that are a big hit. Not on this ship! Prime rib very dissapointing (you dont even get au jus, they drain the steak dry and add a brown gravy just like the gravy you make with a packet), Lobster disappointing, Filet mignon dissappointing and the list could go on. If there was one thing that was relatively good it would be the Soups. I was probably drawn to all the soup offerings more due to average food offerings. Our Room attendant Bruce was fabulous. did not see Bruce much but he sure took care of us. We only ate dinner in the main sit down dinning hall 3 nights due to service being a little slow. everyone was very nice but between every course we had to wait 20 minutes. Our 830 dinner usually took over 1.5 hours. For two nights we decided to eat at the Winjammer buffett where they normally serve the same dishes with a few item exceptions. tables in the windjammer were left uncleaned for a long perion of time. there would be people trying to find seats and many of the tables had dirty dishes waiting to be cleaned off. they may be understaffed but still did see quite a few of the bus boys working very slowly. If you have read this so far you may wonder why i give a 4 star rating. Well, the ship was Great and based on the cruises i have taken, nothing is perfect.

Falmouth, Jamaica - Grab a tourist person (white safari hat) to walk around town. makes life easier
Liberty of the Seas Liberty of the Seas - Use the elevators in the front of ship as much as possible. much quicker during busy times. Get up early on Sea days (6 or 7 am) and you will feel like you own the ship, elevtors move faster and it is very peaceful.
