Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey - We had a very late afternoon flight home so took the Manhattan Tour thru RCI with transfer to EWR airport included. The tour was very good and guide was a native New Yorker who was very knowlegeable. One stop was not far from Freedom Tower and located at waterfront. we had a beautiful view of Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and our ship parked across river in Bayonne. our next stop was the 9/11 memorial and we had enough time to see both fountains that were built in the footprints of the two towers but didn't have enough time to go into museum. we did have a chance to pickup a piece of pizza to take back to bus. We then rode up to Central Park area. We then headed out of Manhattan to EWR. All in all the tour was good and provided a good overview of Manhattan. We were at airport around 2:00.
Boston, Massachusetts - We did the Boston Old Town Trolley hop on/hop off tour. we booked it online and got a senior discount and free tickets to the Boston Tea Party. The tour was very good but with heavy traffic and ship being late to disembark we didn't have enough time to get on and off as we had hoped. We did get off at Fenway Park to see the big green wall and the bronze statues. we got back on and continued to the Boston Tea Party and walked to James Hook restaurant to have a late lunch of lobster roll and crab roll. Those were absolutely the best we've ever had. We walked back to the Boston Tea Party and had an enjoyable one hour there having an interactive history refresher. The gift shop was really nice and had a good selection of pewter items made in USA. I would recommend this tour even if you don't have enough time to get off and wander around. it would be even better on a two day visit especially since our tickets could have been used for a second day.
King's Wharf, Bermuda - We did Ricky's Island Excursion and had a great time seeing the high points of Bermuda. Excursion was in a 14 passenger minibus and we had a fun group of adults. I highly recommend this third party excursion.
Cozumel, Mexico - My husband and I had been to the Puerto Maya pirt many times on cruises but had never been downtown. This time we got a cab into town and got out at the main square across from ferry terminal. We visited Balam which is a shop that sells painted and framed feathers. we were very impressed with the artistry and found one to take home. Across the street is a very nice coffee shop owned by an American who moved to Mexico. He buys local coffee beans and roasts them himself. His coffee selections were very reasonably priced and hubby enjoyed a nice cup of espresso. we spent the next couple of hours walking around the shops and vendor booths along the first street away from the water. we had read about the Lobster Shack so walked the 6 blocks or so to it and found delusions lobster rolls, shrimp rolls and beef rolls. they sell a sampler that has one of each with chips and soft drink. It was really good and glad we just beat the lunch rush because the place was pretty small. We really enjoyed going downtown and will probably explore another part of downtown on next trip to Cozumel.
Progreso (Merida), Mexico - Our own excursion in Progreso! We took free shuttle bus to Progreso & walked thru bus terminal & found a blue double decker bus. Got a city tour for $5 each & were only ones on bus. Had great guide pointing things out. Was half the price of the one bus company was trying to sell. After tour walked one block to check out the Municipal Market. Broad produce area and asked about things we had never seen before. Also looked around the myriad of food vendors & decided we'd be back for lunch. Got back on main street and headed towards the public beach. we happened upon a "flea market" which was actually a nice collection of local vendors. Bought some t-shirts & souvenirs & hubby got a great massage. Looked around and saw lots of small restaurabts, bars & coffee shops in the area around the flea market. BIG NOTE: Clean restrooms at flea market. Just tip the lady handing out tissue. Went back to Market and got tacos and empanadas at the biggest food vendor in the market. Also got fresh mango juice nearby and had a great lunch for about $10. Headed back to bus terminal & checked out vendors on the way, saw fresh green coconut stands and a large supermarket. Got shuttle and headed back to port. We were in town for about 4 hours and had a great outing. nice people, safe area to walk around and contributed to the local economy. Never listen to the folks that say there's nothing to do in Progreso!!!!
