About buckml67

Now retired, and at first worried I might be bored on a cruise. Couldn't be more wrong! We make our own great time and have enjoyed many activities on all the cruises we've taken.

Carnival Dream

April 2018 - 7 Night Western Caribbean (New Orleans Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Dream

Westerdam

January 2017 - 7 Night Mexican Riviera (San Diego Roundtrip) Cruise on Westerdam

Fabulous cruise!

We have traveled extensively on HAL and have never had a bad experience.  This was a familiar itinerary, but we took different excursions than we had taken before.  We found the staff on board to be very friendly and competent, the food above average, a wide variety of choices for excursions and easy embarkation and disembarkation.

Queen Mary 2

October 2016 - Southampton to New York Cruise on Queen Mary 2

Great second half of our trip!

We did a round trip on the QM2.  On the return, we enjoyed the different speakers, the additional show (Walk Like a Man) and all the activities available on the ship.  Cunard made it very very easy for us to get off in Southampton, enjoy several aspects of that city and then re-embark back onto the ship.  Once again, the service, the food, the activities, the shops all were terrific and we look forward to our next voyage on the QM2!

Queen Mary 2

October 2016 - 7 Night Transatlantic Eastbound (New York To Southampton) Cruise on Queen Mary 2

Another fabulous experience!!!

Overall, the service was a very high level, from the cabin steward, the dining room staff, all the bartenders and the purser's desk.  The choices on the menus were extensive, the portions reasonable and the food wonderful.  We especially enjoyed the lectures and the shows.  It was too quick a week!

Eurodam

June 2015 - 12 Night Northern Capitals (Copenhagen Roundtrip) Cruise on Eurodam

great itinerary!

We really enjoyed this cruise.  No complaints about the food, the service, the staterooms, the bars, etc.  Easy access to every port.  Both excursions we chose had very friendly, knowledgeable guides and easy walking.  They were Highlights of Rostok and in Oslo, Viking ships museum.  The front desk was very helpful in changing money.

buckml67's Tips

Key West, Florida - We love Key West! We just walked around, up and down the streets checking out our favorite haunts. We got to wave to Dominique, who has a trained cat show at Mallory pier just before we left the pier.
George Town, Grand Cayman - We've been here before, so we tried something new - the Cayman Turtle Center. We enjoyed learning about the breeding and raising of the turtles and go to hold some babies too.
Cozumel, Mexico - We didn't do an excursion here, but we walked up and down the shore street, did some shopping and had a great lunch of fish tacos at the Paradise restaurant.
Eurodam Eurodam - Be sure to visit both the Pinnacle and the Tamourin restaurants! They are exceptionally good. We also enjoyed the thermal pool in the spa.
Zaandam Zaandam - It's a smaller ship, so there is a greater chance of seeing the same people often, and getting to know them better.
Westerdam Westerdam - I would recommend trying all the dining choices, the Lido, the dining room and the Pinnacle. They all had a wide choice of meals and the food was great. The itinerary include some really fun choices. We took the Pirate Ship whale watch and had a great time. No long lines anywhere.
SOUTHAMPTON - We shopped at West Quay, visited SeaCity museum with its great Titanic exhibition, had a beer at the historic Red Lion Inn. We took the crew bus to the shopping center and walked back to the pier.
Queen Mary 2 Queen Mary 2 - Try to get a cabin midship. People we met who had cabins near the bow felt the rough seas much more than we did. Also, we had a short walk to either elevators and staircases B and C which led to all the extras on board.
SOUTHAMPTON - We took the crew bus up to West Quay for shopping, then walked up to the SeaCity museum, then walked back to the pier, stopping at several historical locations.
Queen Mary 2 Queen Mary 2 - Try to get a cabin midship. People we spoke to who were "in the pointy end" felt the mildly rough seas much more than we did. Also, it was a short walk to either elevators and stairs B and C which opened onto many of the shop and lounge locations.
Oslo, Norway - viking museum and kon tiki museum were really interesting
Cruise Oslofjord - beautiful scenery
Helsinki, Finland - Again, hop on hop off was great - you see all the sites at your own pace
Copenhagen, Denmark - I walked up to the Neils Bohr research institute and had a great visit - he is one of my Quantum Mechanics heroes!
