Carnival Freedom

Carnival Freedom

Sail date: May 01, 2014

Just Mediocre

A friend and I decided to take a cruise to celebrate our graduation from college. After searching around for deals and dates we decided on Carnival. Overall our experience with Carnival was ok, nothing really stood out except for our room steward Clarence (more on that later). From our arrival at Carnivals terminal at Port Everglades everything seems somewhat unorganized and chaotic. People are shouting at you to move lines or not to stand in a certain area (there aren't enough seats in the waiting area). While everyone is friendly it just seems like there could be a more organized approach. After we boarded and found our room we decided to explore the ship. To our surprise some pools and stated activities and venues were closed for the duration of the trip (looks like Carnival didn't finish the upgrade in time?). The buffets were good and offered a variety of healthy choices and great sweets. The staff was attentive and cleared away our dishes in a prompt manner. The dining room staff, however, were not great. We were forgotten a number of times and received wrong orders three nights in a row. We didn't put up a fuss and just asked for the correct item, which ended up extending our dining experiences those three nights to over 3 hours. The entertainment guests and our room steward Clarence were definitely the highlights of the trip. The comedians were pretty good and the performers were great. Clarence was always attentive to our needs and willing to chat about pretty much anything. He is truly a shining star at Carnival. The debarkation at our ports was chaotic to say the least. There was barely any communication from the crew other than \"you can't wait here, go back up to level 1.\" We were never informed of docking or clearance, which resulted in passengers lining up in stairwells and hallways. There has to be a better way to organize this process as well. Also you know those pushy people at flea markets that try to sell you things you don't really want?
