About brettgoguen

I spent most of my life living next to the Bay of Fundy and always found the sound of surf to be very soothing so cruising is also relaxing for me

Merry Christmas Cruise

The 5 of us took the 4 day Dream cruise beginning Dec 5. Kathryn, one of my nieces (28) was able to book the Spa special for approx $25/night, she said it was well worth the price.  This was my 3rd cruise and everyone else's first time.  The little ones really enjoyed the Oceanears Club and Lab and each took one night and ate dinner there rather than with the old folks.  The staff, as always, were pleasant and appeared to actually like being there. I booked the princess meet and greet and Anna and Elsa meeting before we left home.  This year we participated in the Fish Extender program and the girls really enjoyed coming back to the room and finding little things waiting for them.  We spend two nights prior to the cruise at the Art of Animation Cars Family Suites in Disney world and arranged private transportation to the port. In Nassau we took the semi submersible reef tour which was so so but the little ones really enjoyed seeing all the fish and the guides were both informative and amusing.  Everyone loved Castaway Cay. The shows were, as usual, very well done and we got to see Moana in 3D as well.  We also had very good dinner companions, a family of three from Minnesota who's son Orion was the same age as our youngest princess Charlee.

Norwegian Getaway

May 2015 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

Haven Suite

It was a very good time for all. My niece had a choice for her 21st birthday between Las Vegas and this cruise and  she chose the cruise. I took her and my 19 year old niece (cousins) I gave each of them $400 to gamble with and made sure they got to do some snorkeling at Tortola and dolphin interaction at Atlantis in Nassau.  If you can afford it book a Haven suite.  My older brother and his wife also accompanied us

December 2014 - 4 Night Bahamas (Port Canaveral Roundtrip) Cruise on Disney Dream

Second awesome Disney Cruise

Again, I had two teenagers with me, (17 and 18) and they were both so excited with the trip.  Again, the boat was as close to perfect as it could be.  We had a good time, the girls enjoyed meeting our table mates, last disney cruise our table mates never showed up.  The magician and movies on the boat were extremely entertaining and the only down part of this cruise was the inability of the captain to get into Castaway Cay so we had an extra day on board.  As per usual, disney does it up right and the girls had a great time.

Norwegian Star

August 2014 - 9 Night Baltic Capitals (Copenhagen Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Star

Lots of Walking

This was an awesome cruise. Being a history buff stopping in alot of the places I've read about was great. Was amazed that the medieval church in Rostock Germany was in such good shape after all of the bombing that the country went thru. Tallinn in Estonia was very quaint and we walked from the ship to the tourist area.  We spent two days, with a guide, in St. Petersburg and we were amazed at the Hermitage museum as well as the Peterhof palace and Catherine's palace.  Helsinki, Finland, was more walking but it wasn't as easy to get around as Tallinn.  Stockholm, Sweden was everyone's favourite city. It is built on a series of islands and was so beautiful. While in Copenhagen we did visit Tivoli Gardens and purchased some "real" danish pastry on our last day.

Disney Dream

June 2013 - 4 Night Bahamas (Port Canaveral roundtrip) Cruise on Disney Dream

First Cruise

This cruise came about because I wanted to take one of my nieces on a cruise because of her interest in Titanic so I thought the Dream would be the ship to experience it on and I was right.  I took her and her cousin (14 & 15) at the time.  The girls really enjoyed themselves and interacted well with the the staff. I actually only saw them on port days, Nassau and Castaway Cay, and meal times. The rest of the time the girls were in the teen club Vibe so I spent alot of time relaxing on my own.  I also sent them on a special Castaway Cay excursion with other teens from Vibe

brettgoguen's Tips

Disney Dream Disney Dream - Register for as many things that you want to as possible before you leave home. I would suggest registering the kids for the onboard kids groups, any meet and greet that you want for them and any excursions that you may want to take.
St. Petersburg, Russian Federation - If you go to the Hermitage museum in St. Petersburg you may see a hallway lined with portraits of military figures. These were painted at the bequest of the Czar and represent all his officers that fought to defeat Napoleon. The black ones represent officers that died fighting the French
Disney Dream Disney Dream - If you have little ones that want to meet Anna and Elsa you need to pick up tickets when onboard. There is no charge for the tickets but they are limited so do it first thing
St. Petersburg, Russian Federation - One place, imho, not to miss is the Hermitage museum. If I could have done without a guide I could have easily spend two days there
Copenhagen, Denmark - While visiting Copenhagen, if you have a full day then drive up north to visit Kronborg Castle, the setting for Hamlet. The paintings and tapestries are beautiful and seeing the rooms people lived in hundreds of years ago. On the third floor (I think) there is even a medieval indoor bathroom
Stockholm, Sweden - Try to make it to the Vasa museum. they have dioramas and video of the raising of the ship after 400 years sitting on the bottom. Very interesting and entertaining.
Stockholm, Sweden - Make sure you take one of the hop on hop off boats. They are an excellent way to get around and they have headphones you can use, or bring your own, and listen to descriptions in your choice of language.
Disney Dream Disney Dream - I would suggest taking an old rewards card or some other credit card sized plastic card to use for turning on the lights. I have been known to leave the room and forget my room key in the slot and have to be let back in. This would be good for almost all cruise lines I'm sure
Disney Dream Disney Dream - Make sure you take advantage of your assigned dinner time. The interaction with the servers so great and they knew by the second seating that I liked to have tea with my desert.
Disney Dream Disney Dream - Take a covered refillable mug with you to use at the soda stations. Also, I found the best chicken strips at Flo's Cafe
