Liberty of the Seas

July 2016 - Liberty of the Seas to Caribbean - Western

That's what I'm talkin about!

After a couple of mediocre cruises, I was worried that the excitement had worn off. But this one was excellent and reminded me why I love cruising! This despite the fact that our itinerary was changed on day one due to Hurricane Earl. No Belize or Honduras for us. Rerouted to Nassau instead, and we kept Cozumel but did it earlier in the week.

The crew on the ship stayed in an excellent mood and the cruise was a blast anyway. Spent a ton of time by the pool, trying out some of the features of the ship we hadn't used before, and generally being happy.

Norwegian Pearl

March 2016 - Norwegian Pearl to Panama Canal, Central America

Dates are wrong -This Review is for TRB XVI

As stated in the title, the dates on this review are wrong but there was no option to select the cruise I actually took, which was a charted cruise for The Sixthman company. This year was The Rock Boat XVI, my first experience with a chartered cruise. Many bands and music acts were onboard including Sister Hazel, Michael Franti, and Gavin DeGraw. I enjoyed the music festival atmosphere but I appreciate that people reading this review will be interested in hearing about the ship.  I really, really, disliked this ship. I have cruised on Carnival (which I rate as average) and Royal Caribbean (which I rate above average) so that is what I am comparing this to. The ship was in great disrepair and many aspects of the cruise were simply sub-par. The food was disgusting compared to the other cruise lines. Very disappointing. Nervous

Independence of the Seas

December 2015 - Independence of the Seas to Caribbean - Western

Subpar compared to other Royal cruises but overall good!

This was my 7th cruise, 5th with Royal Caribbean. This wasn't quite as up to the friendliness and cleanliness standard of the others I've taken with Royal, but I am unsure as to whether this was because the regular crew were all on vacation for Christmas (my own theory) or something else. We had multiple issues: The Good: The boat was decorated very lovely for Christmas.  Plenty of options for activities and entertainment The Bad:

Our waiter in main dining did not seem to remember us from night to night, did not listen, got our orders wrong, and seemed disengaged.

Our stateroom attendant didn't introduce himself until day 3 of 4.

There was an issue with the staff coming back on the ship from our port day - accusing a member of our party of being intoxicated when they were merely food sick, and cutting off the drink package for the remainder of the weekend (what the hell....).....this was later rectified after an hour at the service desk but yikes, what a headache....

The casino staff were unfriendly

Multiple problems with the aesthetics of the ship....for example, the light bulbs on many of the main thoroughfares and in the cafeteria needed badly replaced (they were constantly flickering and gave me a headache).

The Ugly: Our plumbing in the stateroom backed up several times a day. (ew)

My suggestion: If you are taking a cruise on this style of ship, try a different ship such as the Freedom. I had no issues on the Freedom and the ship was identical but nicer. If you are considering a Christmas cruise, do some research. I feel like most of our staff had "checked out" and simply were not cheerful or happy to be there.

Enchantment of the Seas

July 2015 - Enchantment of the Seas to Caribbean - Bahamas

Great for a weekend getaway

My spouse and I had one last weekend available before work got really crazy for fall, and we had a free airline voucher, so we decided to jump on a last minute weekend cruise. This cruise stopped in Nassau and CocoCay, but we decided to just take it easy and not overplan things. This was my fourth cruise with Royal and it was on par with what I've come to expect from this cruise line - clean ship, very friendly service, and lively entertainment. I have certainly been on ships I liked better (this is a smaller class ship) but some of the renovations have given it a few decor and entertainment options that the others don't have so it felt like a new experience.

Radiance of the Seas

May 2015 - Radiance of the Seas to Alaska - Gulf of Alaska

Don't be scared of a cold cruise!

I am usually a Caribbean or warm cruiser - there is nothing quite like the feeling of a warm sun glowing down on your skin while you sip a pina colada on the lido deck! So I was quite skeptical when my spouse suggested that we take an Alaskan cruise. What's fun about wearing your coat all week in May? Yech! Thankfully, I turned out to be quite wrong in my apprehensions. The weather was mild all week, so jeans and sweatshirts sufficed for clothes (or tights/skirts and long sleeved blouses with a light jacket if you wanted to dress it up) and it was quite invigorating to cuddle close on the deck with my sweetie, holding a hot cocoa and watching as we sailed quite close to some breathtaking glaciers. The ports of call were thick with Native American culture instead of the usual islander, and rather than dolphins and sting rays, we spied bald eagles, whales, and moose.

Oh, and the Solarium was open 24 hours a day too, so I managed to catch a few rays too! Wink

Vision of the Seas

July 2014 - Vision of the Seas to Caribbean - Western

Small ship, packed with fun!

Although this is a smaller ship in the Royal line, the crew does a fantastic job of packing in the fun! All of the expected elements of a good Royal cruise are there; friendly bartenders, pool games, rock climbing wall, and an entertainment staff who never stops trying. For a four day cruise there are just enough activities to keep even very active cruisers happy. However, on a longer cruise savvy sailors might be left wanting for more shops or clubs on-board or some monotony/repetitiveness in the compass. The casino is adequate but I have seen more variety on the larger class of ship. However they also have a really good art gallery staff and the Centrum is beautiful. So I would highly recommend this cruise for a 4-ish day trip but any longer I would suggest finding a bigger ship!

Freedom of the Seas

May 2013 - Freedom of the Seas to Caribbean

Has the WOW factor

From the moment I stepped on this ship, I was thinking, "WOW"....and didn't stop thinking it until I left! I had never done a Royal cruise before and this cruise made me a believer. I will never cruise with Carnival again (sorry)!! The children were well-contained, and the clientele seemed more, what...mature? It was less of a college-spring-break feel, anyway, and more of a let's-enjoy-the-beautiful-sights feel. This ship is massive and the promenade contains more than enough shops and stalls to keep you happy for even an eight day trip. There is a large variety of bars and clubs so the nightlife is plenty entertaining.  The decor is just beautiful and you could spend a whole day just walking around and checking out the details. For example, in just one of the clubs there are half a dozen stained glass windows to admire.  This cruise features more activities (obviously) than on the smaller class of ships. I enjoyed the cupcake decorating class with my older family members and my husband gave the rock-climbing wall and the surf-riding pool a try. You can even ice skate! This is the cruise that made me a Royal Caribbean loyalist. So two thumbs up for sure!

Celebration (RETIRED)

blundergirl's Tips

Cozumel, Mexico - Unexceptional port town. Beautiful beaches and fun little bars.
Galveston, Texas - Pretty fun! Stayed in Houston at the Tremont...beautiful and classy!
Liberty of the Seas Liberty of the Seas - Bring magnetic chip clips! The walls are magnetic and you can hang up your Cruise Compasses and receipts and stuff out of the way.
Enchantment of the Seas Enchantment of the Seas - When you get off the ship at CoCo Cay, go towards the beach and turn right. Then walk for a while. Keep walking. Walk really really far. Eventually you will reach a quiet area with hammocks, awesome for just chilling out by the water. There's a bartender close and you can avoid the crowds.
Ketchikan, Alaska - A bit disappointing if you don't do an excursion. Same type of shops you've seen all week.
Icy Strait Point (Hoonah), Alaska - The zip line is cool but the one in Ketchikan is supposed to be better, I hear? I don't know, we hiked the forest (recommended! Spotted an Eagle!) and did some whale watching at the pier.
Juneau, Alaska - Got food poisoning from the Imperial Saloon. Beware! :)
Skagway, Alaska - We took in the saloon show for giggles. Actually really fun and interactive!
Cruise Hubbard Glacier - Indescribable. Get a hot cocoa and enjoy the view...don't worry if you're not facing the glacier, the ship turns 360 degrees in the water.
Radiance of the Seas Radiance of the Seas - Spend the extra money on a balcony and order room service! It is tough to find window seats in the Windjammer. (On the Alaska cruise,) try using the hot tub during the ice carving demo after the glacier day. The water is warm though the air is cold and you get the best seat in the house!
Freedom of the Seas Freedom of the Seas - The casino has a few slot machines by the door that have bonus cash dispensers that will randomly open at intervals. We saw them open several times during our trip so give them a try!
Vision of the Seas Vision of the Seas - Hit up the bathroom behind the Schooner bar...it was almost never crowded and often empty.
Oasis of the Seas Oasis of the Seas - This ship was beautiful! We introduced ourselves to the room staff with a postcard from our town. After that, they always knew who we were and took good care of us!
