August 2015 - Golden Princess to Alaska - Inside Passage
We have been on 5 prior Princess Cruises and have always been happy. This time we thought the "Golden" Princess ship was less than satisfactory. It seems old and drab. Seats in the theater and Vista Lounge need to be entirely redone-they are dirty and OLD! The rooms are also worn and need to be refurbished. The golf course was a real joke, just astro-turf and 7 holes set off to one side without even flags in them. This whole area was ridiculous. And, it took us 3 days to actually find the place. It is hidden away behind a small door mid-deck. We only came upon it by mistake! The meals in the main dining rooms were fabulous, as usual. But, the Food Court on Deck 14 is B-O-R-I-N-G! They offer the same old stuff everyday (and most of it is not very healthy). It would be nice if they offered many more healthy choices (i.e. smoothies, fresh berries with non-fat Greek yogurt, healthy cereals, more healthy salads, etc.). Yes, some of us enjoy cruising but want to continue our healthy eating habits. Lastly, we really disliked all the "selling" that went on for wine tasting, drink programs, ice cream and pictures. We pay a lot for the cruise and it seems like you are still having to pay many more costs than you had to years ago. Seems like a real waste when you see ALL of the pictures that will probably be shredded. The animals and mascots that were used when your picture was taken getting off the ship were pretty ridiculous. Make it more simple and maybe we would actually WANT to buy the picture! On a positive note, the ship employees were very friendly and helpful and really make the voyage enjoyable. Our room steward was fabulous! Princess should work on making sure ALL of their ships are up to the same standards. It does make a difference!
