January 2015 - 11 Night Panama Canal Partial Transit (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip) Cruise on Coral Princess

Great Experience to Panama Canal

We sailed on the Coral Princess 3-11 Jan 2015.  This was my 3rd Princess cruise and I liked this ship the best.  The ship is smaller (approx 2k passengers and 900 crew); easy to navigate/learn the ship; excellent service; good meals and decent entertainment.  The ports of call were outstanding except we were unable to dock in Limon, Costa Rica and another port of call wasn't available so we had another day at sea.  The weather was warm (80-90) but the seas a little rocky a couple days.

Most of the passengers on this cruise, this time of year, were 60+ and very few children.  We had an interior room and it was adequate in size and had back-to-back mirrors.  We were on the Caribe, 10th deck.

Biggest complaint, lack of towels at the pool area & wish we had more time in Colombia.

Don't bother with an excursion in Colombia, just take a taxi to the Old City for the short time you are there.

We took the Pelican pier bus to beach in Aruba for $5 each (one way)  and included a beach chair.

We took taxi/small bus to  7-mile beach in Grand Cayman.

Yes, take an excursion in the Canal - only way to get off ship.  We did a 4.5 hr excursion to the Fort, rain forest (saw monkey's) and the Gatun Locks observation area - loved it.

Married on Board & Honeymoon

Our Honeymoon was amazing, thanks to the NCL staff.  We received a 'treat' daily to our stateroom; priority exiting at tender ports; priority exiting on return to Miami; and invitation to the Capt's reception.  And, at Cagney's we received a free bottle of champagne.

The wedding planner associated with NCL barely did their job prior to us getting on board.  12 days before departure she asked '...we have 14 guests attending your wedding..."  No, we had 41 and this info was provided 45 days in advance.  On day of wedding, in port, one couple was not on the list and had it not been for the Staff Captain on duty, they wouldn't have been granted access (after flying down fro Chicago).

The wedding was perfect once it got started and everyone had a great time.  We had 22 guests sail with us and we were even selected to play the "Not So Newlywed" game.  :)

Back to wedding, one minor complaint is that the photographs are expensive, and the photographer is one of the on board staff and NOT a wedding photographer.

Loved our cruise!!!

Nice, but hard to navigate ship.

This was my 2nd Princess cruise, and 10th overall.  I have also been on HAL, NCL, RCI, Cunard, Carnival and Celebrity.  Celebrity and HAL exceed this ship on both meals and service.  The fitness facilities on board are very good.  the balcony room was much smaller than most cruises I have been on even for interior and OV rooms.  The buffet is the best, and nicely appointed, than any I have encountered at sea.  The Piazza is the gem of the ship - very nice.  The entertainment was very good.  The pool at the back of the ship woulda been nice adding a hot tub.  The movies at sea are still nice.  I liked the pizza and burgers for a quick snack whenever your returned from port.  The check-in is slower than most.

We found it hard to navigate the ship and being that the ship is new, some of the crew wasn't much help either.  And, in there is a stairway that goes to deck 7 and stops.  ??!!

If you like Princess, you will probably love this ship.

Get the beverage package, if you can get it on a deal for free.

Colon, Panama

Nothing much to do here and it was a local holiday, so no beer/booze sales,

Coral Princess

Coral Princess

Great pizza at the lido deck.

Philipsburg, St. Maarten

Prefer beach away from town. however, for $25 got: two chairs with cushions, umbrella, and bucket of 6 beers.

Regal Princess

The balcony was wonderful. Smoking cigars only in Churchill's (inside) and not being able to smoke where others do isn't fair.
