November 2015 - Jewel of the Seas to Caribbean - Southern
Boarding the ship was easy and departure was handled well also. We had a superior cabin with balcony and found the room to be quite okay. Our room attendant Rayborn was excellent. I must say the entire staff was very friendly and helpful. Entertainment was just okay with the headliner being pretty good. I found the food for some reason just did not seem quite as good as our last Royal Caribbean cruise. It was okay. Our last cruise was on the Liberty of the Seas and we missed the large promenade area as opposed to the centrum on this ship. The wow factor just was not there. The most noticeable thing was the movement of the ship. Even in water that really did not seem that rough the movement was bothersome. We all were disappointed with that and most likely will not take another ship this size due to the motion. We tried the Portofino one night and the food was good but not exceptional. Actually the main course was not quite hot enough when served but taste was good. Deserts all have fancy names but were very mediocre. The itinerary was great (which is why we chose this particular cruise). Getting off and back on the ship was quite smooth and easier than the larger ships. All of our excursions were booked outside of the cruise ship as you can get more for your money. We particularly enjoyed St. Lucia and St. Martin. We did not have an excursion planned in Antigua and merely walked around town. We found the people here to be pretty unfriendly compared to the other islands. The casino on the ship was pretty much a waste of time. The ship for the most part is attractive and well maintained. I believe it is scheduled for major upgrades in 2016. I must say when departing that Royal Caribbean wanted around $18 per person for arranging transport back to the airport. We knew we could all 4 get a cab for around $20 total. I find it rather greedy of them trying to gouge customers so much.
