June 2014 - Veendam to Canada, New England, New York
The first week of June was mostly sunny with average high of 62 degrees, very nice for our cruise. Especially enjoyed Bar Harbor and Quebec. If we were in control, we'd skip the stop in Sydney, Nova Scotia, a tiny town that appears depressed and doesn't offer much to do. Instead, we'd prefer another night in Quebec, or an additional night in Bar Harbor. I would've like time to hike the trails in Bar Harbor.
The dinners in the Rotterdam were generally very good, with some spottiness. Ex: one night the leg of lamb that was excellent, but on another, a rack of lamb was spongy and disappointing. Lido offered a fair variety. Dishes looked fresh. The first 2 days of the sailing, there was no self-service in the Lido as a precaution against contagious illnesses. This held up things a little. Guests were asked throughout the voyage to use hand antiseptic dispensers.
Our stateroom, 103, had a cracked sink but was generally very comfortable and since it's forward, conveniently close to the spa, gym, and Lido on deck 11.
The salon services were very nice.
We appreciated that the lines were short or non-existent at the service desk.
