Enchantment of the Seas

December 2014 - Enchantment of the Seas to Caribbean - Bahamas

Interlude on the seas

Although RCL's Enchantment of the Seas is an older cruise vessel, we were very pleased with our cruise.  The staff was most attentive, serving, and helpful.  We found the ship to be clean and well maintained.  The entertainment was family friendly and, except for the final evening, kept at a tolerable volume.  Even at night while others kept going we were able to retire and sleep without the loud, obnoxious, bleating & beating we had to suffer on the Carnival cruise we took last year, loud "so called" music we could feel as well as hear in our stateroom.   We were disappointed weather kept us from the private island and not being compensated for missing that port of call, but in every other way we were completely satisfied.  The way the staff, including senior staff, kept making sure we were being satisfactorily served and had no questions.

Carnival Imagination

December 2013 - Carnival Imagination to Caribbean - Western

Cruise

Except for the maître d' and Guest services, the staff was excellent, as was the food.  The maître d' and initial waiters initially refused to assign our group (all non-drinkers) to a private table or with other non-drinkers.  We were initially told when getting our ID cards to select our group's dining preference at that point, but the woman making our ID’s  (my wife & I were the last of 3 couples being processed) refused to make the assignment, stating we would have to do that on board, in defiance of what the other two couples had been told by their processing agents (plus, our agent messed up our ID cards and they had to be remade before we could board).  Then the maître d' that did complete the seating assignment requests subsequently placed us at a larger table with drinkers.

The first two nights we kept awake until nearly midnight from the bass music emitting from the Dynasty Lounge 3 decks above our stateroom.  Guest Services, including supervisor Gorge, initially stated the show was scheduled and would conclude soon.  It was further stated the volume could not be reduced.  Fortunately for us the show was in another location the 3rd evening and did not take place the fourth.  The risk of having to listen to such loud, undesirable “so called” music was not mentioned when I was reading information about the cruise, nor would I have paid for the passage had I known we would be subject to such.

In the interior parts of the ship the speaker system was adequate.  However, when gathering with friends to talk and escape undesirable entertainment of the Lido deck we would have to shield our ears from a blaring PA system that started announcing upcoming events.  We had a schedule and had selected the events we wanted, one reason we had sought the exclusion of the deck tables, plus the announcements were barely understandable due to the excessive volume and poor English by the announcer.

While the photographers on board provided a great service, they interrupted every evening meal we had on board.  With all the time spent waiting for our meals when they could’ve taken photos, they always appeared demanding we pose for pictures while we were in the process of evening and attempting to converse among ourselves.  Then, the maître d’ just had to give a spill via loud speaker just before our desert arrived.

The waiters we were eventually assigned were excellent, as were the meals.  Our cabin steward also did an outstanding job and our accommodations were excellent.  We were pleasantly surprised by the guides of our two shore excursions and (except as previously noted) the overall operations of the cruise.

TGL's Tips

Enchantment of the Seas Enchantment of the Seas - Dinning staff was very helpful in describing and recommending dishes that were not familiar to us. Announcements were at a volume that still left one's hearing intact. Boarding and deboarding the ship seemed much smoother, especially for shore excursions. The security teams were very courteous.
