Carnival Triumph

February 2016 - Carnival Triumph to Caribbean - Western

Carnival Triumph 2/6/16

This is our 4th cruise, 3rd with Carnival. We did a lot of first on this cruise. We went out of Galveston instead of New Orleans or Miami. We finally got that balcony. And it was a Aft wrap around (6434). And thee only port we haven't been to was Grand Cayman which we had to by passed.

Embarkation: No problem there. I had 2 persons with me that were in a wheelchair. So we didn't have the long lines to be in.  Boarding did start late. Which wasn't a bad thing since within about and hour our cabin was ready. Which we loved. This is our first balcony cabin and we loved being able to relax outside with out having to have to search for a seat.  We did our normal ritual of eating and getting that first drink. Guys Burgers are great.

The Triumph is a nice ship. It took us longer to learn the layout than the Fantasy or the Norwegian Jewel. But we figured it out.  We didn't go to the shows except for the Love  & Marriage which was wild and fun.  We ate more in the main dinning room. Almost every night.  Love our waiter and waitress. (Naricso &  Chichi)They were great. And the lady who made sure my glass was always full Keitna. Would love to sail with them again.  Our cabin steward Lauro did a great job of keeping our cabin straight.

As for food. We tried all of the Lido deck for food. We loved Guys Burgers and Blue Iguana. The pizzas wasn't as good as the were on the Fantasy .  The deli was good. and loved the Carving as well. The Main dinning in the Parish was nice. Had a couple steaks which was good.  Overall. The food was good.

Now for the Ports. We had 3 ports. Montego Bay, George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. We skipped Grand Cayman due to winds. and they already had 3 ships anchored already.

Montego Bay: If you have a ship bought excursion. Make sure that when you get off of the ship. get with the right people. They had us and several other people going all over the place trying to find were we were suppose to be. Luckily they waited for us. We did the Dunns' Waterfall  and the Dolphins Encounter.  Dunn's was cool. The water was cold and the climbing was tough. But fun. If you are physically able. It is a to do. Traveling from Montego Bay is a nice ride. But you get to see the countryside. Make sure that you wear your swimming wear on the way. The Dolphins was great. Our first time touching and playing with them. It was cool.  I was able to do some quick shopping for some shirts while we waited for the last of the group to meet up.

Cozumel: Always love Cozumel. This is our 3rd time here. We did the ATV Jungle ride and Beach. We loved the ATV. My wife was in a wheelchair some time because of her knees. But she was using her cane to walk. The guys on the tour took very good care of her. Whenever we stop for our break. They moved her ATV closer to her so that she would have that far to walk.  The beach was cool. The wind was up a little so there were a few things that we couldn't do but had fun anyway.

Norwegian Jewel

April 2010 - Norwegian Jewel to Caribbean - Western

Our first Norwegian Cruise

This was our first cruise with Norwegian having cruise with Carnival twice. And our first 7 day cruise.  Embarkation: Embarkation went well. Not to many problems. It was a little warm inside but luckily by the time we we checked in they were allowing people to board. And of course like most people we headed over to the buffet. Which brings us to the next subject.  Food: The food was great. Ate in all of the free restaurants and we like the food. The buffet lines were somewhat long most of the times, but that was to be expected. As for the specialty restaurants. We ate at the Le Bistro.(Came with the romance package we bought) We also ate at Cagney's and Teppanyaki. Now the food was great at each of the restaurants. And the service was great as well. But I would have to say that the service we received at the Le Bistro was by far the best out of any of the restaurants that i have eaten anywhere. And I have been some of everywhere. Our waitress and Jr. waitress was Elizabeth and Anna. And they were great. Always made sure that everything was great with our meal.  The cabins: We had 2 inside cabins. 5539 & 5541. They were slightly smaller that on the Carnival Fantasy but the were nice. No complaints there. Our cabin stewards were Manuel &  Ship: The ship was nice and clean. Took a few days to learn the layout of the ship. I liked the fact that you can go to deck 11 forward and look into the bridge. I also like that they put hand sanitizers everywhere. A helpful reminder to keep those hands clean.  Entertainment: We only went to 3 shows. The Welcome Aboard Show, Cirque Bijou and the International Crew Show. All 3 were great. Make sure that you see the Crew Show. They have some very talented people on board and the Fountains show is great.  Excursions: Initially we booked excursions at all of the port but we had to canceled due to me having to have foot surgery. But we booked some on-board. Even with my foot in a boot. We still had fun We eventually did a excurison in all of the ports. And had a lot of fun. I love that fact that they have several kiosks that you can use to book excursions.  All in all. We had a great cruise. Were there some problems. Yes. But guest services took care of them. You will allways have problems on any vacations. But why dwell on them when you can be having fun instead. The Norwegian Jewel is a great ship with a great crew. You do have to pay extra to dine in the specialty restaurants but it is worth it. My advice is go on a cruise, any cruise. And just have fun. On another note. If you are driving to Miami. We drove from Louisiana. And this is the first time. Make sure you have cash on had for tolls. We paid around $21 going and $13 coming back going through tool booths. Also when you get to the port. Check the signs for which ship is at which terminal. The Jewel is at terminal B which is the last one and you should be parking in lot C. We had to pay $140 for parking.

Roatan: This was our first port. Initially we booked a beach deal here but due to my foot we decided to do the Best of Roatan instead. That was a great tour. We learned a lot about Roatan and the boat ride was great. We walked around before we took our tour. Met a local name Gabriel who walked with us for a while and told us about himself and life there. This is not a tourist port but it was still a nice place to visit.

Belize City: Our second port was Belize City. We did the Altun Ha tour which was great a well. This was our second time going to a Mayan Ruin. Our first was Chichen Itza. This time we were allowed to climb the structures. Be prepared to stretch a little while climbing though. Those stairs are somewhat hard to climb. Our tour guide was great. He kept us laughing throughout the tour. Would love to go back again.

Coasta Maya: This was our 3rd port. They are still trying to rebuild there. We did the Jungle Beach Break. Which was ok. All of the drinks were free which is always good. The food you had to pay for. We had s nice time here. the wife finally had a chance to go to a beach.

Great Stirrup Cayman: Only did some shopping since it decided to start pouring down as soon as we got there.

Carnival Fantasy

March 2009 - Carnival Fantasy to Caribbean - Western

Relaxing Cruise

Embarkation: Since we had cruised on the Fantasy before, we had no problem getting to the port. We were surprised by the lack of people in the waiting area. Everything went smoothly though. Boarded the ship and went to the Lido deck for food and to take pictures. This time around it wasn't as cold or windy like it was last time. The ship looks good with the upgrades. Room: There were 5 of us this time as my sister-in-law join us so we got 2 Ocean View rooms side by side. A lot better than the inside cabin we got last time. I always thought that it wouldn't matter. But it Does. Love being able to look out of the window.  Food: The buffet was not as good as the last time. The Deli and Pizza was always great. But the buffet needed some work. But then what buffet doesn't.  Camp Carnival: They are always the bright spot of our cruise. Our 11 year old loves it. The only problem he had this time was that there were not to many kinds this time around.  Service: Cabin Service was great. Room was always clean. Always called my by name. We called for the cabin stewart one time to ask about something and by the time I hung up the phone he was at the door.  NightLife: The shows were great. I love the Nightclub Express. That was a great show. We missed our first past guest cocktail. But there will be other times. We did formal night this time. The only time that we ate in the Dinning Room. We didn't have our regular waiter. So service was slow, which he did apologize for. But the food was great. I had the Molten Chocolate Cake on my last cruise and I loved it. So I was ready for another on this cruise. Well I was disappointed. This time it came in a bowl and not to my liking..  WaterWorks: The waterworks was ok up until one of my sons slice 8 of his fingers on the small slide. So becareful if you get on it. Carnival handled the situation well. He required 2 stitches which was done onboard. The Nurse and the Doctor were great. The Nurse is from Scotland which is a place I really would love to visit. And the Dr. is from Russia. He was a lot of fun. But even with and injury. My son didn't stop having fun.  Overall we had a great time. Since we cruised on the Fantasy before. It gave us more time to relax, take pictures and just enjoy ourselves.

Cozumel is Cozumel. There is always something to do here. We did The Sub Ocean tour last time. This time the plan was to take a cab into town and do some sightseeing and shopping. We made it as far as Pancho's. We stop at several shops buying items, taking pictures and such. Got to Pancho's sat down, took pictures. Bought an Margaritta and that was it for me. LOl. The waiter told me that if I wanted a good one get the Lime one. That was one strong drink. Now I am not a first time drinker. I stood toe toe with germans doing some drinking at Octoberfest in Munich. But that drink was good. It didn't hit me until I got back to my cabin. And all I can say was. Good Drink.

Progreso is a nice port. Some people don't like it because of the looks. But we love the (Live in Look)that it has. Makes it more real. We drove to Rio Bravo Mexico on the other side of Texas once. And it has that some look without the vendors though. Last time we went to Chichen Itza which was great. This time we took the free shuttle into town and walk around at a slow pace taking pictures and taking in the sites. There are some pushy vendors but we found that if we just say no and keep going they will leave you alone.

Carnival Fantasy

February 2008 - Carnival Fantasy to Caribbean - Western

First Cruise

This was our first ever cruise, and we was planning it for the last 5 years. There was 4 of us. Me, the wife and 2 boys. We live in Baton Rouge which is only about and hour away. But we stayed in Kenner sunday in order to take the haunted tour in New Orleans sunday night. Which was cool as well.

Embarkation: Since this was our first time cruising, and have different post about it, but it went very smoothly for us. We have a little bit of a wait. But after that it went fast. Even traffic going into the parking garage was smooth. And the port security was very helpful and nice.

After boarding, we went to the Lido deck to the Window by the Seas and to the Gril to eat. The hamburgers were great but the hotdogs not so much. The buffet was ok. The food was great sometimes. It depends on what was online. But I we loved eating there due to the view.

Then we headed to our room which was on the Riviera deck which had 4 beds. 2 of them pushed together to make a double. The room was nice even for 4 people it was just the right size. Only problem we had was that one of my boys didn't want to leave it enough. He wanted to look at tv to much. Not a problem for the youngest. He turned into a party animal.

We only ate in the dinning room once, and that was on the last night. But after being seated our waiter let us know that we were missed. He was very cool and nice. He made the dinner go very well for us. Infact if we every cruise on the Fantasy again we are going to make sure we get a table in his area.

As for eating on the Lido deck. My wife and boys loved it. Especialy my youngest. He loves fruit. And he could not get enough of it. I loved the pizzas that the sandwiches myself. We didn't get any soadas since the tea and juices was good enough. And me and my wife loved eating outside in the air just enjoying the view of the water.

Progresso, Mexico: We booked the Chichen Itza Tour which is a place I have been wanting to see for who knows how long. Just me and the wife went and we both loved it. It is a long tour. Takes about 2 hours just to get there. But it was great. A lot of history to be seen. Just be prepared for the heat and vendors. It is hot and they are pushy. You make one stop going to the site. And of course its at a souvenir shop. But it have some nice stuff there. The drive also takes thru town where you get to see the locals going about their day. In my opinion. Not enough time is aloted to visiting the Ruins. There is just to much to see here.
