Carnival Freedom

November 2016 - Carnival Freedom to Caribbean - Western

Fun Trip With A Little Disappointment

We love Carnival, and are loyalty members. We even have stock in Carnival. We loved the Ports of Call, and we had a good time with dinner partners. The comedy was excellent. Our disappointment was with the staff of this particular vessel. We had old open milk cartons from previous guest in our room refrigerator as a greeting. One of the staff who lead a majority of the trivia games was so stuffy and serious, he took a lot of fun out of the experience. However, Tommy was terrific when he did the games. We will return to Carnival,  because we believe it was not a broad Carnival experience, but a management of Freedom problem. LOVE Jamaica. Snorkeling in Grand Turk, and shopping in Cozumel. (Well, shopping in Jamaica was a must as well.) No problems large enough to take our smiles. We like the food and selections. I know that some people complain, but I eat all the shrimp that I can get my hands on during a trip. I would go again, but may select other vessels when possible. They didn't even have our VIFP pins. That's a small thing, but it's a keepsake that has meaning to us. VERY disappointed in the lack of preparation. It's not like we jumped aboard and they weren't aware of the passenger count! Love Guys Burgers, Swirls, and main dining.

Rhapsody of the Seas

August 2013 - Rhapsody of the Seas to Alaska - Inside Passage

Fun and Beauty

If you have cruised before, one might board this ship and be underwhelmed. The Rhapsody is not the newest ship, but she is clean and more than adequate. The Captain was awesome as was the Cruise Director. The beauty of the Alaska trip is so worth seeing. We were able to get very close to the Sawyer Glacier inside the Tracy Arm Fjord. The shows were some of best quality I've seen while sailing. The food and food service was great. The ship is smaller, so you get to know more people and I really liked that feeling. We were a bit disappointed that Royal Caribbean does not make a stop in Ketchikan, AK. The Celebrity X ship that was with us the whole trip made that stop and all the people we spoke to said it was by far their favorite stop. That's not to say that Skagway and Juneau are not good places to visit, as they each have their own charm and beauty. We had an inside cabin about mid-ship on deck 4. It was quiet with no noise problems from clubs or the Centrum area. The Solarium area of the ship is peaceful and beautiful. The café in the Solarium is terrific. Overall, jump on and go! We are glad we did. We have had 5 Carnival cruises and two with RC. The differences are with RC there were less children aboard which is a plus for us as we have raised ours. The downside was the photographers seemed rushed and a bit abrupt. However, they don't hound you about getting a picture taken. The shops are smaller due to smaller ship and the prices seemed a bit higher in the shops. No negatives large enough to keep us from recommending RC and this cruise.

Carnival Glory

September 2011 - Carnival Glory to Canada, New England, New York

Terrific Time in New England and Canada

We just returned from a New England/Canada cruise on the Carnival Glory. Embarkation went well, and we loved the stops on this trip. Boston is so very full of American History that we needed longer in that port. It was the shortest stay in port on the trip. Food was good and we had overall just a great time. The ship is not one of the newest, but well kept. There were less teens and children on this cruise, which we enjoyed for a nice change from the other Carnival cruises we have taken. (No, I don't hate children or teens -- just nice change.) We had an inside cabin on the Upper Deck (6). It was plenty of room for two of us and we didn't spend large amounts of time in our cabin. There is no perfect way to handle large amounts of people at times, but Carnival does a good job. Our transfers worked well. The drivers are INSANE in New York, and our transfer to the ship felt like sure death. Otherwise, the trip was just about perfect for us.

Carnival Dream

October 2010 - Carnival Dream to Caribbean - Eastern

A Good Cruise

The ship's theme is less obvious than some of the other Carnival ships that we have been on in the past. It is however, nice and was kept very clean. It is the "flagship" of Carnival at this time. As the "flagship" they could use some better activities during at sea days. They do have a Comedy Club which is a first for Carnival. Some of the guys were funny, some just profane and not a bit funny. But, comedy is a great direction to head since most people are having less humor in daily living. It is an easy layout to follow if you have been on any Carnival ship. They have all the main attractions in the same place and same levels. That makes for ease of finding your way around.

Sharon4's Tips

Galveston, Texas - Carnival emailed a head's up about traffic due to a motorcycle rally. Grateful for the warning.
Carnival Freedom Carnival Freedom - The worst day on a ship beats any day at work. Go and have fun.
Saint John, New Brunswick - Fun local crafters selling goods at reasonable prices. Friendly people. Bought some bargins here for friends such as SeaGlass necklaces made by a local crafter. Had great weather and a fun day.
Portland, Maine - A place that I could live. Nice homes, and great scenes. Kennebunkport was fun and we had our first Lobster Roll at the Crab Shack, which won the Food Wars Award for Best Lobster Rolls in Portland.
Boston, Massachusetts - Cheers is a favorite stop among so many. The city has three signers of the Declaration of Independence buried there, as well as the first woman said to step off the Mayflower. The USS Constitution is much worth seeing. Boston has very tight security due to 911. (The planes used on 911 flew out of Boston.) Just be patient and prepared for security checks. Wonderful city of history, parks and such.
Philipsburg, St. Maarten - This was the best stop on this cruise. It's beautiful and hilly, and the Dutch side is clean and has wide streets with a bit less crazy traffic than other islands.
Coxen Hole, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras - The Country is very poor, and the ships are helping them to pave roads, improve their incomes, etc. We took a tour of the island, shopped, and had a good time. We bought a few "memories" from the island. We saw how cashews grow, which I didn't know before. It is the top of a fruit. They make wine and vinegar out of the fruit.
George Town, Grand Cayman - We had been to this port of call in the past and visited the Turtle Farm, Hell, and went out with the Sting Rays. Once you have done those things, there isn't that much new.
Cozumel, Mexico - Again, we had been here before. Shopping is the draw to get off the ship. The exchange rate is in your favor.
Belize City, Belize - Again, we took a tour of the city and had a great time. Again, it is a very poor Country. The Cruise Director told folks to stay on the main tours and not venture out on their own. One couple did not take this advice, and their taxi driver told them "to come up with money or he would get lost with them in the taxi." It was a great history lesson and overall, I wouldn't care to visit again. But, I wouldn't give back the one time learning experience of our visit.
