Regatta

November 2017 - 16 Night Supreme South Pacific (Papeete To Auckland) Cruise on Regatta

Farewell Oceania-Won't sail with you again

I will not sail with Oceania, again. They market perks which they don't deliver and came away from this trip feeling as if Oceania does not welcome single travelers. I wrote to Oceania and their response was not friendly or customer focus. Oceania appeared to be living on old glory based on an outdated brand.

Insignia

May 2016 - 18 Night Polynesian Treasures (Papeete To Los Angeles) Cruise on Insignia

Another fun and relaxing adventure...

So much beauty to experience in each island, so many interesting and fun people I met along the way. The experience of having a fruit buffet before returning to the pier in Nuku Hiva was unforgettable; the tour guide in Kauai was the best lecturer on the island's history (better than a book); and the afternoon on the glass bottom boat in Rangiroa was fun with lots of laughter. I met amazing and interesting people and made new friends. The staff are highly professional, committed to high standards of customer services. The only aspect that Oceania needs to improve is travel arraignments: scheduled flights, connections, and time between connections were the number one complaint from the majority of people on this trip.

Marina

April 2015 - 17 Night Pacific Journey (Tahiti To Lima) Cruise on Marina

Beautiful, Relaxing Ports...A Great Experience

I had a wonderful time, met amazing people (passengers and crew); it was a fun experience. Because this is a small ship, quickly it became a small community where conversations began easily over tea or dinner at one of the many dinner options. I returned disappointed with the Easter Island experience. On the arrival day, disembarkation was delayed for several hours, staff did not provide any information on how the delay affected scheduled excursions, so confusion and claims of discrimination were voiced related to the staff attitude. The excursions on Easter Island arranged by Marina are not recommended; they are too expensive and guides are not knowledgeable. Passengers who arranged their own excursions had the best time with experts from the island.

The French Polynesia is the most amazing place to visit; people were friendly and eager to share about their island. Nature is breath taking everywhere I went. I will love to go back again.

Unfortunately, there was a virus floating around the ship and was passed around by passengers/crew. I became sick just when we departed the French Polynesia, sore throat, cough and congestion. I spent 2 days in my cabin with sore throat, cough and fever. I have been home a few days and I am still having symptoms from the virus.

SeaNSun628's Tips

Auckland, New Zealand - Because my flight to the US was after 3PM, I spend the morning visiting various sites around the city, It was a wonderful opportunity to go around the city and spend time at the museum, gardens and other wonderful sites.
Suva, Fiji - This is a highly busy port and traffic is a nightmare. I went to see the fire walkers and in the way I learned a lot about the history about the island and was surprised to see pine trees in a tropical island. I was not expecting to see so many cows around the island.
KINGSTON, NORFOLK ISLAND - We were fortunate to disembark, the island is beautiful and full of history. Everywhere in the island, the island offered amazing views, so many places for beautiful pictures. The return to the ship was not easy; the waves were high and wind strong. This island is dangerous to disembark/embark, tender services was stopped for about 3 hours due to the sea conditions.
Apia, Samoa - The best part of this port was visiting the Robert Louise Stevenson mansion; it was beautiful. Again, the weather did not cooperate with this excursion. There is not much to see in town either.
Bora Bora, French Polynesia - I joined other passengers and went on a diving excursion which I purchased on the pier. We spent time with 3 young islanders who made the experience once to remember for a long time. They took us to best places: feed the sharks, hold stingrays, coral garden, along the lagoon. They were flexible and allowed for everyone to enjoy and relax the time. They were great singers also. Passengers who did the same excursion through Oceania complaint about their experience; rushed and missed most of the places we anchored.
Bay Of Islands, New Zealand - These are 140 islands and words don't describe how beautiful this area is. The island are easy to move around. I highly recommend to skip the excursions to Russell via Oceania, the ferry is cheaper and very efficient. Also, skip the lunch cruise around the island, it is not worth it, wasted money.
Raiatea, French Polynesia - Spending time at one of the motus, it was the most wonderful treat. This island is so beautiful and weather can be unpredictable during November.
Papeete, Tahiti - Be aware that Tahiti is closed on Sundays so not much happens.
Regatta Regatta - This is an old ship with very few conveniences e.g., technology. Electrical plugs are only found in the cabin to charge phones/iPad and passengers are not allow to leave devices charging unattended due to fire hazards. The ship has breakdowns which may impact the selected route. Passengers who started the route in San Diego spent 10 days in Hawaii because the ship broke down; they were given $500 onboard credit per cabin. DON'T BUY EXCURSION THROUGH OCEANIA, BUY THEM AT EACH PORT; THEY ARE MUCH CHEAPER AND MORE FUN.
Honolulu, Oahu - Loved the double decker bus (Pink line). The fare is $2 and it goes through all the high end shopping in Waikiki and loops back to Ala Moana shopping center right in front of Waikiki beach. The bus from the pier, for passengers and crew, goes to Ala Moana shopping center. Diamond Head has the best view of the entire island.
Lahaina, Maui - A very different town since my previous visit back in 2007. The high quality boutiques are gone, restaurants didn't seem appealing and shopkeepers seemed to eager to make a sale.
Nuku Hiva, Marquesas - A beautiful island, the site for the 2001 CBS- Survivor episode, much history all around the island.
Papeete, Tahiti - The Papeete market is a must to visit; it is located right across from the pier.
Insignia Insignia - Bring a sense of adventure to this route; weather is unpredictable and the ocean can be rough at times (11 feet waves). The temperature changes very quickly, on land and on the ocean, so highly recommend to pack for dry/wet and warm/cool weather.
Marina Marina - Guests can make additional reservations at specialty restaurants; some of the most popular restaurants had waiting lists, though.
Hanga Roa, Easter Island - This port should be a 2 full days; there is too much to see. Because weather changes rapidly and has an impact on the disembarkation, Marina should adjust their time to allow more time on the island.
