Carnival Glory

July 2014 - Carnival Glory to Caribbean - Eastern

Carnival Glory to eastern Caribbean

Food was great, but the evening entertainment was lacking.  Rarely was the theater filled to capacity.  Many empty seats.  Two nights of Hasbro games was ridiculous.  Two nights of the exact same show with the singers and dancers at the exact same time was ridiculous.  Other cruises have featured magicians and professional entertainers.  The comediens in the Ebony lounge weren't that great either. One constantly ridiculed everyone, even people and kids in the audience.  The "family" shows didn't seem so much family oriented to us.  Deja Vu was a fantastic group as the members performed.  Sadly, they were put in the casino lounge which seemed like a hallway.  They could have been one of the performances in the theater for evening entertainment...again, in our opinion. St. Thomas and San Juan were great ports.  The Carnival Island was fantastic--a great way to start or end a cruise.

Norwegian Dawn

January 2014 - Norwegian Dawn to Caribbean - Western

Summary of Cruise on Norwegian Dawn

We enjoyed the cruise although we have been to the Caribbean before on this same cruise.  Newcomers would probably enjoy it more than we did.  We were disappointed to find out on the last morning (when our bill arrived) that we had been given $50 in onboard credit.  No one told us that we had this so we didn't spend all of it.  We had a couple of drinks, but we would have had others had we known about the credit.  We have now learned to ask at the Guest Services counter about any onboard credit at the beginning of a cruise.  This was very disappointing considering we did go to the Guest Services desk about a couple of other items.  All in all the trip went well.  We had enough time in each port so as to enjoy either an excursion or just our free time to wander around.  There wasn't as much variety in the food in the dining room or on the buffet as on other cruise lines, but it was all good food.  We were wondering  why we had to request cookies; they were rarely put on the buffet line so as to help ourselves.  Someone behind the food lines had to get cookies except for two or three different times.

ScottMac's Tips

San Juan, Puerto Rico - We rode the free trolleys around town and to the forts. Very interesting forts.
Miami, Florida - Did no excursions or activities as we just got our car from a parking lot off site and drove home.
Grand Turk Island - Nothing there. Crowded beaches and crowded pool. The one bar had "free" wifi, but the internet didn't work anyway. We wouldn't even get off the ship if we were to go again which is highly unlikely.
Carnival Glory Carnival Glory - Buffet deck was crowded in the mornings with long lines for breakfast. No knowledge of the dining room for breakfast. Dining room was great at dinner time. Hamburgers/cheeseburgers cooked by the pool were fantastic. Ice cream/frozen yogurt machines were great too.
Cozumel, Mexico - Mexicans tend to bother the tourists; always trying to get people to go into their shops. Then the tourists feel the Mexicans are bothering them rather than being helpful.
Costa Maya (Mahahual), Mexico - Nothing to do in port other than taking a shuttle to the "new"area and then returning to the ship. A cost of $5 but there really wasn't anything of interest to do in the "new" shopping area.
Norwegian Dawn Norwegian Dawn - Buffet had good food all day long with juices, fresh fruit and quick service.
