I took the 1/24/2002 11 night Caribbean cruise. Embarkation was tiring. We had to wait in the airport terminal for more than two hours for our bus. Then, after the 10 minute ride to the pier, our bus had to wait in line. It was another hour and one half before we boarded the ship. Recommendation -TAKE A CAB. The ship itself is beautiful, though many passengers found the ship very unsteady even in moderate seas. I'd hate to be on board during a bad storm. (I've taken more than 20 cruises, so I'm not prone to motion sickness.) My veranda cabin was a bit smaller than I have had on other lines. My cabin steward was merely adequate. The pool area is outstanding. I was, however, most disappointed with the food. Celebrity's motto is, "Allow us to exceed your exptectations." The food on the Summit did not even meet it. The menus were blah, and the food was okay. I had previously sailed on Celebrity's Horizon and Zenith. On both of those ships, the food was exceptional. Our waiter, assistant waiter and assistant maitre'd were very good, however. The food in the casual buffet was even worse, often looking and tasting tired and/or dried out. Disembarkation was a nightmare. Though I had an early flight out of Ft. Lauderdale, and had told the Guest Relations of this, I was in the fifth or sixth group getting off. Once again, I sat on a bus for 35 minutes. I was told that the driver could not leave until the bus was full. Due to this and to the fact that another cruise ship was also disembarking at the same time, the airport lines were terrible. I missed my first, second and third flights. Recommendation, request early departure and then take a cab. I hope that my experience is only an abberation. My fear is that Celebrity is slipping or cutting costs and corners due to its ownership by Royal Caribbean.
