Norwegian Escape

August 2017 - Norwegian Escape to Caribbean - Eastern

Second time around

We had a fantastic time and enjoyed our vacation a lot. This was our second time on this cruise and we were much more relaxed about having to do everything. The specialty restaurants are fantastic and the Supper club and Wine lovers show are worth the price.

Norwegian Escape

August 2016 - Norwegian Escape to Caribbean - Eastern

Fun on the high seas

We had a great time on the Norwegian Escape. The ship is absolutely amazing, along with the staff, food and ports. We especially appreciate Maureen, our port shopping guide, always friendly and informative. Christian our room steward remembered our names the first day and help create a wonderful vacation. The photography group took some amazing photos and were always working to capture our vacation. My sons practically lived in Entourage, the teen club. The cruise directing staff was always busy and there was way to much to choose from to get it all in. Our biggest complaint was the spa, we scheduled two massages when we boarded and from there it seemed that we were sold and sold, charging us for treatments we had not received and spending more time selling us overpriced products than helping us relax. After a 50 minute massage we were used car salesman sold for 30 minutes. We will take the cruise again, but avoid the spa.Happy

RCard's Tips

Tortola, British Virgin Islands - We had a wonderful time in Tortola because we prearranged transport to the beach. The ride was about 30 minutes over very hilly roads, but our driver and guide Sam Henry was fantastic and professional. We found a beach the was not crowded with a reef and little beer and soda bar. It was paradise and a much needed retreat from the ship.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - We took the excursion to Abi beach and outside the truck ride there, it was beautiful. The water is not quiet as clear as some beaches, but it wasn't crowded and lunch was good, drink strong and staff friendly.
Nassau, Bahamas - We booked our excursion with cruise 411 and even though the boat was a little late, it was a great time. Crew was friendly and we went to a reef way out beyond the crowds. The snorkeling was fantastic and we even saw a sting ray. We returned and went shopping in Nassau at the straw market and local stores one block yup from ship dock.
Miami, Florida - No excursion, but we gave ourselves an extra day of travel and it paid off. We were very excited about Miami, but it rained all two days there. There was plenty to look around and see and restaurants to eat and drink at. The Hampton Inn was well located near public transportation, Uber was everywhere and the way to go.
Norwegian Escape Norwegian Escape - Expect areas of the ship to always be crowded and plan accordingly. Make your reservations early and prepay for as much of your trip as you can. There is so much to do on board read through your planner and find things you want to do.
Tortola, British Virgin Islands - Tortola was beautiful and clean, but very expensive and they would not bargain like they did in other ports. The people were warm and friendly, but don't shop in this port, go to the beach.
Nassau, Bahamas - Shopping in the Bahamas is always great and my sons love to bargain at the straw market. We went to Paradise Beach for the afternoon and it was dirty and full of garbage. They were running scams on the beach chairs and you need to watch yourself. The tourist on the beach helped us out and are watching each others backs. If you go stay away from the resort area of the RIU and Atlantis, when you get to the beach go to the right and get out of the crowd. You will be hounded until you get far enough down the beach. Don't rent the lounge chairs!!
Philipsburg, St. Maarten - St. Maarten was clean and lovely, shopping was good. We had purchased an excursion on the Marabella Catamaran and would do it again. The crew was great and snorkeling and beach were paradise.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - For an American St. Thomas was wonderful. Most of the islanders we met were from Wisconsin and the Midwest. We did not have good weather, so we didn't make it to the beach. Shop here as you get twice as much duty free and the have some great rum Bones and Jumbie" are our favorite.
Miami, Florida - Don't stay at the best Western and make arrangements for Transportation to the ship. The hotel gave free shuttle service to the airport was $10/pp to the ship. When we returned we used MAShuttles and it was $30.00 for all of us and we had more room in the van.
Norwegian Escape Norwegian Escape - Bring your wallet drinks are expensive and even though dinning room is included there is a $13.50 per person charge at every meal. The service was worth it. STAY AWAY FROM THE SPA!!!
