Explorer of the Seas

September 2017 - Explorer of the Seas to Coastal - West Coast

Good cruise, great ports to visit, friendly staff but no WOW factor on the ship

We did enjoyed the cruise. The ports were interesting amd there was plenty of time in each port to experience them. The itenarary was the main attraction. The ship is well maintained and clean; food was good but not outstanding; the service was good but not outstanding; staff was was helpful and attentive but no WOW. However, I do recommend this cruise primarily because of the itenarary!

Allure of the Seas

June 2017 - Allure of the Seas to Caribbean - Eastern

Best Rotal Caribbean ship

Great ship - it is one of the best RC has - to visit the Western Caribbean. Lots of fun things to do on the ship, shows were great especially Mama Mia, the Ice Skating and the Diving Shows. There are a good variety of eating options other than the main dining room and buffet.

Grandeur of the Seas

May 2016 - Grandeur of the Seas to Canada, New England, New York

Grandeur of the Seas - Wonderful Trip to Maine & Canada

This is our 2nd cruise on the Grandeur. The first in 2001 was the Med and our first experience with Royal Caribbean and it was a positive one. The ship had been updated since then and is scheduled for another in 2017. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Ike was a fabulous room attendant. The Head Waiter, Yilmaz Komsu,  was very friendly always welcoming us by name and making sure our meal & table (My Time Dining) was satisfactory. We were fortunate to have Michael & Meldon and Melroy & Victor as our servers. The captain was a gracious host at several parties. John & Katrina Blair were wonderful hosts as our Cruise Directors and the "headliners" they scheduled were great, especially James Stephens 111 and David Klinkenberg. We enjoyed the music of the  "Grandeur Band", Fresh Beat, Harmony Duo and Doug playing the piano in the Schooner Bar. There were 2 "aerial act" performances in the Centrum that were most enjoyable. The shore excursions were very informative and entertaining. It was a great cruise to Maine, especially Bar Harbor, and St. Johns and Halifax in Canada. The Port of Baltimore was very efficient.

RADixon's Tips

San Francisco, California - Lots to do and see. The ship docked within an easy walk to Fisherman's Wharf which we went to in the evening as we had an overnight stay. The Bay Tour was good with alot of information on the city's history; Alcatraz Island was booked up. We also took the "Hop on/ Hop Off Bus" which was a disaster, very crowded and our buses kept breaking down. You were afraid to get off because the lines of people waitng to get on were very long. The "Big Bus" did have designated "cruise only buses" which were not enforced. Our 2 hour trip took over 4 hours on a very hot 95' day, The next day we went to the Muir Woods which is an excurision I recommend. We wanted to ride the cable car but the closest one was broken down.
Astoria, Oregon - Visited Fort Clatsop where Lewis & Clark wintered, very interesting. Don't miss the Columbia Maritime Muesum. Also went to the Astoria Column was proviedes a good panoramic view on the area. Town is about a mile and 1/2 from the dock with a paved well marked sidewalk. Town is quaint and worth your time to visit.
Victoria, British Columbia - We had visited the Garden's on an earlier trip so we took the "O Canada" excurision wich gave us a tour of the local area and then dropped us off downtown. There was an easy and picturesqe walk back to the ship.
Seattle, Washington - Be sure to visit Pike's Market and the Space Needle. Easy embarcation process
Explorer of the Seas Explorer of the Seas - My Time Dining reservation should be made in advance to assure a reasonable wait time in line. However, without knowing the schedule of evening activities, you may either miss something or skip your reservation and "hope for the best". Most evening entertainment was at 6:30 and 8:30 with other activities starting at 10:00.
Basseterre, St. Kitts - Our favorite stop on the trip. Friendly people and the island tour especially Fort Brimstone, was very enjoyable. Our tour guide was great, a former MD who now serves as a tour guide so he can spend more time with his family.
Allure of the Seas Allure of the Seas - TIP #1 Make your reservations ahead of time for the shows and other activities and then make your dinner reservations to avoid conflicts. TIP #2: The Windjammer will be very busy for lunch and dinner on your embarkation day; eat at the other many options to avoid lines.
Portland, Maine - Go to Kennebunkport and go out on the boat for lobster trapping, Eat lunch at H & B Provision
Bar Harbor, Maine - Best port of call on the trip. Be sure to take the Arcadia Loop excursion with Cadillac Mountain
Grandeur of the Seas Grandeur of the Seas - Deck 5 is a good place to find a deck chair and it is not crowded like the pool deck 9. The Centrum has music most of the day and evening.
