October 2016 - Carnival Elation to Caribbean - Bahamas
The ship was dirty and outdated. The pool for example had very old tile with dirty grout and always had some brown sheen floating on the water (we did not dare use). They say they have a pool area for children and adults. What they mean is the children have the pools and you can have a small aft deck area with two disgusting, outdated hot tubs. Even one of the hot tubs had a brown sheen floating on the top for a couple days, and pieces of the tile were just missing with the rusty under bar showing. Maybe that was the cause of the brown floating yuck.
It was right after the hurricaine and alot of the passengers were unable to make it. I would have thought being one of the passengers that did make it, that maybe they would have been a little more appreciative and realized that they already had some customer service recovery to do and would have brought out thier A game. With alot of the passengers canceling the ship was lacking social interaction and participation. Most activities were geared around getting you to spend more money or sign up for something. No real just for fun activities and the ones that we went to that we thought may be just for fun ended up having hosts with little desire to be there, and they still solicited coupons for bingo or the casino.
We were warned about Carnival only being good for power drinkers and weekend worriors, and from what we could tell that was the case. Otherwise the culture was lacking, the free services were minimal, and the excitement was not there.
We only went on this cruise to attend with family that had already booked and even they had to cancel due to the hurricaine, but we embraced the opportunity to see how carnival was for ourselves.
