Carnival Imagination

November 2015 - Carnival Imagination to Mexico

You get what you pay for

This was our third Carnival Cruise.  The first two were good, but this last one lived up to the stereotypical comments often heard about Carnival Cruises being mediocre and Nickle and Diming the customer.

This ship was built in 1995 and refurbished in 2008.  The decorating is garish and mismatched.  It also shows a lot of wear and tear, which one would expect on short turnaround cruises.

The food was the highlight.  It was delicious!  There was an extra cost for steak and lobster, which wasn't the case when we went on the two cruises in 2010.  There was also a charge for about 1/2 of the room service, including a $1.75 charge for fries.  No captains's cocktail party with complimentary cocktails, only a captain's event with a 10% discount on drinks.  I'd be interested in knowing when this change occurred and if other cruise lines are doing the same thing.

Regardless, we had a great time.  It was disappointing the stop at Catalina was cancelled due to weather conditions, but this isn't the cruise lines fault.

NanaDebs's Tips

Carnival Imagination Carnival Imagination - If you are a couple and don't mind sharing a table with others, the open seating is great because you can go within the serving time frame any time. If you want privacy, it is suggested you have a fixed seating time. We shared tables and met nice people. We also had dinners at a table for two.
