August 2016 - 7 Night Bermuda (Cape Liberty Roundtrip) Cruise on Celebrity Summit
Delicious food, nice older ship, but very crowded
We embarked on a Sunday and parked next door in the garage for $20 fee which was very convenient. Buffet lunch was crowded like most ships and continued to be that way every time we went to the Ocean Cafe. They only had a very small area to eat outside at the rear of the ship and mostly it was in the sun. Our handicapped room 7212 on the rear of the ship was amazing. Plenty of room to walk around and the aft facing balcony featured a round table and chairs plus two lounge chairs. This was our favorite part of the cruise!
The dining room had lines waiting to get in even if you had a reservation. I've never experienced such chaos on a ship before and we've sailed on 13 cruises. I wish we had opted for the Aqua Class because then we could have eaten in Blu a specialty dining room. For two lunches we paid an extra $10 and ate in the Bistro and had delicious crepes, soup, salad, and sandwiches. Well worth it and such a calm respite from the rest of the ship.
The two days at sea were ok but we never could find a place to sit outside out of the sun and it was very hot. Celebrity doesn't provide much in the way of activities for older people - no card room, speakers, demonstrations, computer classes (they charge fees), Movies were available outside on the rooftop but you had to be able to walk up a flight of steps or get help running a special wheelchair lift. Even when we got up there, there was not shade so it was too hot to be comfortable watching a movie. I imagine at night it would have been lovely but we were always too busy with dinner and shows.
Overall, it was a pleasant cruise but quite expensive for what you got. Our stay in Bermuda was cut short due to a storm so we only had 2 days there.
The ship was not very big but we like it that way cause you can get from one end to the other in less than 10 minutes. The shows each night were great and we always found seating, especially for the 7pm show.
To avoid the crowds and chaos in the dining room, we ended up going to dinner earlier - 5:45 and then racing to the show at 7pm missing dessert sometimes. Oh well, it was worth it to have a quieter atmosphere for dinner.
After the show we went to the Rendouveau lounge but there again it was always filled to capacity and very hard to find a seat.
We would like to return to Bermuda, but would try a different ship next time or else fly and stay at a time share resort.
