May 2015 - Norwegian Epic to Europe - Western Mediterranean
Palma De Mallorca, Balearic Islands - We walked off the ship and just meandered, finding ourselves at a mall, not too far from the port. This was our least favorite port. Didn't help that someone was pickpocketed withing 10 minutes of landing.
Cannes, France - This was fun. We spent a few hours on the beach. Took the little train for a tour around the town. Since we were there during the Cannes Film Festival, we did a little star watching as well, which was fun, seeing all the high profile film industry stars.
Livorno (Florence & Pisa), Italy - Loved a quick visit to Pisa and the leaning tower, which is not a far drive from the port. I love the city of Florence, but the drive there and back took up more time than we preferred spending in a vehicle.
Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy - Rome is a magical city. Wish the port was closer to the city, because at least 2-3 hours are spent driving to and fro. We did a semi-private tour with smartcruisetours and were very pleased. We stopped at the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and Arc de Triomphe, and the stunning Circus Maximus. We also went to the Pantheon, Trevi Fountain (which is under renovations currently) and did the full tour of the Vatican, including the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica. We went by Friends that did a large group bus tour did not have the opportunity to see nearly as many attractions as we did in a short day.
Naples, Italy - We did a tour of Pompeii followed by a drive through Sorrento, Positano and Amalfi Coast. Stunning scenery, with all these cities built on shoreline hills.
Barcelona, Spain - Barcelona was a highlight of our trip. Sagrada Familia Basilica was absolutely amazing, but it is an absolute must to buy skip the line tickets before you go. We did a Hop-on-Hop-Off bus tour
Norwegian Epic - Reservations at the specialty dining restaurant, Cagney's, fill up fast, so If I was doing this again, I would book a couple of evenings there, as soon as I could.
