I think this ship would really appeal to first-time cruisers and kids--features such as the skating rink, johnny rockets, rock climbing wall are unique. However, this ship is about 10 years old and needs drydocking for upgrades to TVs, carpet, etc. The promenade is a fun feature. Shops were so-so. Food was mediocre (best in dining room). The food in the Windjammer needs improvement. Also, it is only opened until 9 pm. Sandwiches avalable in the cafe 24 hours, but that's it. Cutbacks, such as hot tub being lukewarm, lack of towel availability, 1 slice of meat on a sandwich, etc., were evident.
Samana, Dominican Republic - Beautiful port and friendly people. We visited Cayo Levantado, a beautiful little island a few miles from the ship. However, bring your own first aid kit! There is no medical care on the island...so watch out for the sea urchins by the rocks of the beach.
Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas - If you are at the right port, there is a butterfly garden and bird show down to the right and behind the buildings there. You can see it from a high floor out the window of the ship. For a small fee, you can see a beautiful butterfly sanctuary as well as some of the smartest birds in world do all kinds of interesting things...very fun.
San Juan, Puerto Rico - Do a sefl-guided walk about the city yourself and go to El Morro. Dine in the El Convento Hotel, Aquaviva, or The Parrot Club...
Labadee (Cruiseline Private Island) - This was one of the most beautiful places I ever visited. The barbecue was free and delicious, the grounds were gorgeous, and the activities were wonderful. Island surrounded by tropical rainforest, moutains, and what looks like something out of National Geographic magazine,
