Star Princess

February 2015 - Star Princess to Mexico

Wonderful Cruise to Mexico

This cruise aboard the Star Princess was phenomenal.  The staff and crew work hard to make this a great experience for everyone onboard.  The accommodations were very nice, the meals were superb, and the activities were very enjoyable.

The entertainment was OK, but not spectacular.  The first comedian, A.J. Jamal, was fantastic.  Not only was he hilarious, but his humor was clean and family-friendly. The second comedian had some very off-color humor that was totally inappropriate for the youth in the audience.

We really enjoyed the ports of call.  At Cabo San Lucas, we went to a very nice beach resort for swimming, sunning, and lunch.  Loreto is a very nice town - the people are warm and friendly.  We went to the San Javier Mission, which was a very nice tour.  In La Paz on Sunday, we decided to go to Church.  It was a great experience.  My Spanish, while not great, was serviceable enough that I could help my wife know what was being talked about in the sermons.  Again, the people were very warm and friendly.  And our tour in Puerto Vallarta was to the mining town of San Sebastian - very fun and educational.

The ship needs to improve disembarkation in Puerto Vallarta.  Because the tours met on the pier, many people almost missed their tours because everyone was crowding the gangways.  Perhaps they need to designate one gangway solely for those with tour tickets.

There was no previous advertising of tours in San Francisco - we didn't find out about them until several days into the cruise.  Had we known about them before the cruise, we would have saved ourselves much time and effort, and we wouldn't have wasted time trying to find something to do while we waited for our flight home.

But overall, this was a great cruise.

Sapphire Princess

February 2013 - Sapphire Princess to Hawaii

Hawaii Cruise Was Well Worth It!

Our cruise aboard the Sapphire Princess to Hawaii was a real treat. The Sapphire Princess is a beautiful ship, the crew was friendly and eager to serve, and the itinerary was delightful. We couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Oosterdam

May 2011 - Oosterdam to Alaska - Inside Passage

A great experience in Alaska

The Oosterdam is a very beautiful ship. It is clean and well-maintained. There are plenty of public places to sit and relax, and there are lots of activities in which to participate.

Norwegian Star

February 2007 - Norwegian Star to Mexico

We had a great time!

The Norwegian Star is a beautiful ship. The crew does an outstanding job of providing great service. On the first "at sea" day, the itinerary was changed to take care of some "mechanical issues." We didn't miss any ports, but they were just in a different order. The crew handled the changes well, and we were kept informed about the itinerary changes.

LarryE3's Tips

Loreto, Mexico - A very nice small town. The trip to San Javier Mission was worth the time.
La Paz, Mexico - We were in La Paz on Sunday, so we chose to attend Church services. The people were very warm and friendly. It was a great experience.
San Francisco, California - I wish we had known before the cruise that after-cruise tours were available. We signed up for one onboard, but it would have helped our planning to know in advance that this was an option.
Star Princess Star Princess - While the ice cream shop serves soft ice cream at no charge, one of the best-kept secrets on the ship is that they also have hard ice cream and milkshakes - there is a fee, but it is well worth it.
Ensenada, Mexico - Only four hours at dinner time on the last night wasn't appreciated
Lahaina, Maui - Some went whale watching, and some hiked and swam at waterfalls.
Honolulu, Oahu - We rented a car and drove to our various destinations.
Sapphire Princess Sapphire Princess - Breakfast & lunch in the International Dining Room were always excellent.
Victoria, British Columbia - Again, because of the itinerary, we were only in Victoria during the evening - I would like to have been there earlier in the day. Butchart Garden was phenomenal.
Ketchikan, Alaska - Because of the itinerary, we could only spend half of a day in Ketchikan because we needed to set sail for Victoria. It would have been nice to spend more time there.
Sitka, Alaska - I was the only one in our party with a shore excursion. The Sitka Bike and Hike tour was a lot of fun.
Juneau, Alaska - One of the highlights of Juneau is the Mt. Roberts tram.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico - We took a tour to San Jose de los Cabos, and it is a very nice little town. We found some good deals on silver and other items there. Of particular interest were the cactus garden and the glass blower.
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico - On a previous visit to Puerto Vallarta, we visited the beach at Las Caletas, and it was great. This time we took a city tour. I would have liked to spend more time along the waterfront park, and less time at the "Rocky Point" park at the far end of the city.
Acapulco, Mexico - Acapulco is a big city with lots of traffic congestion. The cliff divers are something to see, and we enjoyed our stop at the Chapel of Peace.
Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa, Mexico - Zihuatanejo is unspoiled, so far, by tourism and commercialism. The people are very friendly, and the merchants don't swarm the tourists. Just a couple of blocks away from the waterfront, the city is "pure Mexico" - most of the shopkeepers and workers don't speak much English, and it was a real treat for me to practice my Spanish skills. In my opinion, there should be less time in Acapulco, and more time in Zihuatanejo.
