June 2014 - Serenade of the Seas to Europe - Mediterranean
The Serenade is a beautiful ship that is easy and nice to get around on. We really liked all of the windows. This was our first cruise with Royal and we will definitely cruise with them again. The food variety was wonderful. We dined in the Main dining room, the Windjammer and Chops. We were able to find something we liked at every meal. Because this was an international cruise the chefs catered to lots of different tastes and we found it interesting to try out different foods. We enjoyed the pools, mostly the adult pool. The entertainment was good, especially Toni Warne of the View. Fantastic. We enjoyed the pool tables as well. We toured Barcelona on the bus tour from the airport and then to the ship. Well worth it. We toured Nice and Monte Carlo on our own and realized we would have enjoyed the day in Ville Franc just as much. Easy to catch the trains there. We rode trains on our own for Pisa and Rome. Loved the Vatican museum and we were happy that we had bought the tickets online before our trip so we didn't have to wait in line. We joined the ship tour of Pompeii. Wow it was worth the visit! In Venice we rode the water buses all over, we bought tickets that gave unlimited access, and to Murano, rather than the ship transfer that only went to one stop for double the money. Venice was a blast and we enjoyed seeing Doge's Palace and Basillica. We liked Ravenna a lot. A nice place to walk around and we looked at some of the mosaics. Kotor is absolutely beautiful. We loved walking around there. We thought we wouldn't rally like a 12 day cruise but we did and we're thankful for the last two days at sea to rest after all of the walking. If we cruised there again we would learn to speak more French and Italian.
