Cruise tips

Cozumel, Mexico

I did the 3 Reef Snorkel, booked through Royal Caribbean Liberty of the Seas. They picked up from a dock very close to the ship and the boat they use is comfortable, with a nice sun deck up top (although with only a few sun loungers) and an outdoor shower on the very back of the boat. The crew were fun and knowledgeable and got us all fitted with the correct gear. There were at least two guys in the water with us and they were very helpful with a woman who was a little nervous. One thing they did that was cool was to take about 8 pictures of each of us from underwater, with tons of fish around (they scatter some food to attract them). Back on the boat you were shown the photos on a laptop and given the chance to buy them and have a link sent to your email, to then download them to your phone or computer. The price was $20 cash then or $28 via PayPal a few days later (it’s slightly more due to PayPal surcharges). I hadn’t brought enough cash so I paid via PayPal once I got home. At least two of the photos turned out really well, with fish facing the camera next to me pursing their little fishy lips! Impossible for me to take these selfies myself so I was happy to pay for such great shots. And they threw in about 90 extra photos of exotic fish and other sea life, as well as shots around Cozumel. Not every shot was frame-worthy but it was still a great bonus gesture. As to the snorkeling itself, it was a little underwhelming but we did see several varieties of fish, an eel, and a sunken boat. The guys dived down to point out interesting stuff I’m sure we would have never noticed on our own. All in all, I was satisfied with the excursion and super happy with my photos.
