Carnival Freedom

January 2017 - Carnival Freedom to Caribbean - Western

Carnival Freedom Upped My Opinion!

This was our 2nd cruise on Carnival, 9th cruise overall.  Sailed on RC, Holland America and Celebrity.  I have to say, originally I told myself I wouldn't sail on Carnival, as I've heard some bad reviews with too many kids, too many drunk idiots.  This is now the 2nd cruise on Carnival and The Freedom has changed my mind!  The average age I would guess is 40 and up, very few children, but it all depends on time of year. The wait staff was outstanding, especially our waiters DD & Endra.  Our room attendant Nengah kept our ice buckets full all the time and room spotless!  There was a delay from the prior ship coming in on Saturday of 4 hours, but Carnival did try and reach everyone possible via text, phone calls or emails.  We got on 4 hour later but were so impressed on how fast they turned the ship around, getting 4,000 people off and then reboarding another 4000!  Outstanding!  Our luggage was to our room extremely fast too! The buffet food was fairly standard nothing fancy but served the purpose for quick and easy meal. I tried the deli this time around and it was great!!  Pizza Pirate always good, my husband loves Blue Iguana and Guys Burgers. The shows including comedy acts and theatre shows were more fun and less stuffy that other cruise, 80's rock, beach party, etc There's a reason they call them the fun ships!  All around best value for the money, cleanliness, fun and good times!

Carnival Glory

February 2016 - Carnival Glory to Caribbean - Western

First time on Carnival, not bad, just not our cup of tea

We've never tried Carnival Cruise lines and wanted to due to price and availability of destinations. We'd heard some rumors of it being full of partiers, drunk people, too many kids, etc so we were prepared for that since we're an older couple (50-60's).  We didn't find that to be true. It was a good mix of ages and we didn't hang out by the main pool or slide so we were able to relax by the adult only pool in the back of the ship.    The ship crew was great for the most part in dining room, guest services and room attendants (outstanding!).  Bar service personnel not so great.  The ship was always clean and well kept continuously.  It didn't have a lot of variety of food in the buffet and was pretty tasteless. The buffet seemed to close down way to early to accommodate anyone who did a late lunch or came in from port.  The dining room food was good but not great like we've found with other lines. We loved the Blue Iguana restaurant and Guy's Burgers were good.   We did the steak house and that was great. My husband actually ordered steak house entres in the dining room because the daily choices were so bland (extra cost). The room service menu didn't have a full service breakfast other cruise lines offer (cold items only).  The main complaint we had was disorganization for large endeavors such as shore excursions and debarkation at stops and end of trip. They never seemed to have enough staff to handle the large crowds and made it very frustrating.  While we had great weather, enjoyed the stops, it just wasn't something we'd do again.  Will choose another cruise line in the future.

Kimberkk's Tips

Mahogany Bay, Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras - Absolutely beautiful stop! We have went twice now to Little French Key which is a private island, have to book directly with them. It's paradise!! If you ever get a chance, GO!
Belize City, Belize - Several times we've stopped here but haven't taken any excursions outside of the port. The port has a few shopping but it's all repetitive, nothing unique. So we shop a little then get back on the ship. Not much else to see at the port.
Galveston, Texas - Didn't realize this was winter time for Galveston and they are known for having heavy fog. Because we like to cruise in January or February and get out of the cold in Michigan, we won't sail from here again as we want all of our vacation time to have as much sun and warmth as possible. Given that, Galveston has a lot to offer, but we'd prefer to see it in the warmer months. The pier port is right next to the oil refineries, not a pretty site to be next to when sailing away.
Cozumel, Mexico - We've done a lot of outstanding excursions here from swimming with the manatees and dolphins, riding underwater scooters, helmet dives underwater, etc. The shopping is also great! We never get tired of this stop as there's so much to do.
Carnival Freedom Carnival Freedom - All cruises are what you make them. If you want to have fun, you will! There will always be things that happen that could be a slight bump or a major issue, depending on how you view it and work with it. These are lower priced cruises but NOT lower value or quality.
Miami, Florida - Almost all hispanic, spanish speaking, hard for both parties to understand each other. Extremely busy and I would never drive here. I would choose a different port.
Cozumel, Mexico - We did the underwater helmet dive and wouldn't recommend it. More just a walk on the bottom of ocean, stopping to get pictures (which they want you to buy at $55 a pop). We took our own underwater camera. Last year we did the underwater scooters and that was much better, more hands on. Beautiful area and lots of shopping.
Carnival Glory Carnival Glory - If you chose aft (back of ship) cabin, you will be walking everywhere and does swing more in the back. The Fish and Chips is extremely hard to get to from outside! Easiest is to go directly up from the lido buffet, we didn't think it was that great for the trip.
George Town, Grand Cayman - I would book stingray city off the boat for excursion. I think the length of the time spent and being able to feed the rays more happens on offsite excursion. Beautiful island though.
Belize City, Belize - Not ablot to do in excursions here and also not a lot of shopping by the pier.
