Pride of America

Pride of America

Sail date: December 01, 2010

NCL-Pride of America is the only ticket

If you are looking for an elegant, luxury and romantic cruise, this one is not for you. They pride themselves on the casual and kid friendly atmosphere. There are about 2,500 passengers onboard and we were told that our cruise had more than 600 children. They run wild through the restaurants. For the most part the accommodations were pretty good although the ship could use some refurbishing. I would not say that it was the cleanest place in town. However, these are not my major complaints. The food was substandard in the main dining rooms. The ship has 5 or 6 other dining options for an additional fee. However we did not try them as all the food comes out of the same kitchen. So why would one spend more money to eat in the other restarurants .The breakfasts and lunches were acceptable but the dinners were awful. The corporate policy is that the passengers cannot bring liquor on board the ship. My husband and I waited about 6 hours for our luggage to be delivered to our room only to find out that they were holding it until we came to collect the suitcase which held the bottle of wind we brought with us. They took the wine and would not return it to us until the cruise was over. This was for our anniversary and wanted to celebrate in our cabin. They charge extra for everything on the ship. We were constantly be harassed to purchase other items such as photos, beer and wine tastings, bottled waster and soft drinks in the dining rooms and elsewhere. We no sooner were onbroad the ship when a bar maid approached us to sell us 6 bottles of very overpriced wine which would be kept for us to drink on board. However, you had to give them 24 hours notice when you wanted it delivered to your cabin or the dining room. Additionally, they charged $12.00/day per person as a gratuity. It cost my husband and I an additional $24.00/day just to be on the ship. We have been use to giving gratuities to those staff members who we felt gave us good service. After all, that is what a gratuity is for. The best of all in my opinion was that this cruise was the holiday cruise which included Christmas Eve. They announced that one could attend a Christmas Eve afternoon brunch for an additional $20.00/person. You are already being charged a higher price for cruising during the holidays. In addition, on Christmas Eve, They were having a PUB CRAWL which I found particularly offensive. A leader was leading around a group of participants who were yelling and screaming at each of the outdoor bars while were were cruising to the Napali Coast on Kauai at about sundown. This was a very beautiful part of the cruise and we did not need to hear the drunks screaming about their drinks. By the way, this was an additional $20.00/person also. (5 drinks @ 5 bars for $20.00) We have been on many cruises, in fact this is our 5th and have never had an experience like this one. As a result we will never use Norwegian Cruise Line again for a cruise anywhere in the world.
