Greetings from Michigan. My name is Dr. Joe Reddick. I will be guiding y'all through the world of Finance over the next six weeks. You may ask why someone from Michigan might be using such language. Well, having lived in Texas for 19 years it is hard to drop the y’alls. I am a Yankee now though. I am as far south as I ever want to be. It gets hot down there and I don’t do hot well. I don’t mind the winters in Michigan. They are just a little longer than I am used to. But, I love the summers here in Michigan…both weeks of it. I was born in Phoenix, Arizona, reared in Springfield, Missouri, educated in Hawaii, lived in Texas for a long time, and call Michigan home now. I promise that I'm not really that mixed up...just moved around a lot. I married my high school sweetheart...we had our first date in the 9th grade. We will celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary this year. After the ceremony and a short honeymoon we immediately reported the U.S.S. Daniel Boone, a Polaris submarine being constructed at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard. I spent nine years in the submarine service before going back into the “real world.” I graduated from the University of Hawaii (Accounting and Finance) and earned my MBA from Wayland Baptist University (Operations Management), and my DBA at Nova Southeastern University (MIS). I am a CPA in Oklahoma, Texas and Michigan. My wife and I have five children, three grandsons and two granddaughters. All of our children have graduated from college. Four of them graduated from Harding, One has finished her PhD in political science from Michigan State and is director of research at the American Judiicture Society in Des Moines, IA Another is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and cut her auditing teeth with Auther Andersen in Minneapolis and now is a housewife, mother and an on-line teacher for Harding and Baker College, plus rearing two children in the Houston area, the third is a housewife and mother in Memphis, TN. Our one and only son is a CPA and works for Fisher Corp in Houston. Our last child, a daughter, graduated from Hope College in May, 2003, spent three years in Guinea, West Africa in the Peace Corps. She completed a masters in International Health and Nutrition at Johns Hopkins and is married and living and working in Washington DC. We are “empty nesters” now and are enjoying spending our children’s inheritance. We are “cruisers.” We enjoy cruise ships and travel all over the world. After six years with Haskins and Sells, CPAs (Deloitte now) and nineteen years in Corporate America I had a mini midlife crises some seventeen years ago and decided that I wanted to teach at the university level. I am a tenured professor at Rochester College now and love it! I think I have found my "niche". I really enjoy teaching. I am looking foreword to this class and hope y'all enjoy the class and learn all you can over the next six weeks.
