Carnival Splendor

September 2015 - 7 Night Canada & New England (New York Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Splendor

Bigger Isn't Better

My wife and I booked a New England and Canada cruise on Carnival Splendor, after enjoying a Caribbean experience on Carnival Pride. We were attracted by the relatively low price as well as the itinerary: New York to Boston; Portland, ME; Halifax, Nova Scotia; and St. John, New Brunswick; back to New York. The ship itself is large and negotiates the water easily- a smooth ride. Our suite, OS class, was very good, and cabin stewards are great. But we found food dismal in the Black Pearl restaurant (same menu as the other restaurant, just open seating). The buffet areas on Lido deck are very crowded and noisy. We did not try the steak house (Pinnacle) based on a bad experience in the steak house on Pride.

Carnival Pride

November 2014 - 7 Night Exotic Western Caribbean (Tampa Roundtrip) Cruise on Carnival Pride

Good Value, Good Destinations

Pride seems huge. Ten story elevators transport 2000 passengers, with one bank of three elevators glassed in, providing a multi-story view. Décor reminds me of Las Vegas- a little glitzy, nothing understated, but pleasant enough. Initial reactions to the food yielded some misgivings, but things brightened up during the week. Steakhouse dinner was weakest of trip, with an upcharge. Casual food on Lido deck good. Dinners in restaurant good, as long as we stuck to casual, comfort food selections. Comedy Club wildly entertaining.

Seabourn Legend

February 2013 - 7 Night Caribbean Hideaways (St. Thomas roundtrip) Cruise on Seabourn Legend

First Cruise Sets a High Bar

We probably should have selected a lower level line for our first cruise. It's going to be hard for anyone else to match up to this experience. Ship is relatively small, but certainly big enough to navigate comfortably in Caribbean. Itinerary was fine, but our first trip, so  not much basis for comparison. Food was excellent, and that is very important to us. Wines not top shelf, but good. No need to pay for an upgrade.
