Norwegian Breakaway

June 2015 - 7 Night Bermuda (New York Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Breakaway

Allure of the Seas

March 2015 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Ft. Lauderdale Roundtrip) Cruise on Allure of the Seas

Allure, Blacony March 2015

Unbelievable ship.  If you need activity on a sea day....this is the ship.  Too many activities to list.  It is a big ship and a lot of people HOWEVER not really crowded except first day or two at buffet (avoid it, why eat at the buffet?), and elevators.  The elevators seemed not to be responding to the call buttons all the time (seemed like a program glitch).  There were many days we waited a substantial amount of time for an elevator.....and I don't mean they were full.....they just took forever to come.

Our Room 11262 was a nice balcony room by the elevators HOWEVER we felt cheated and I will explain.  We always say in balcony rooms.  We enjoy the seating space (a sofa) if friends drop by.  This room was a connecting bedroom to a suite and because of the connecting door location we only had 1 small lounge chair instead of the sofa.  Just a little odd, otherwise a nice room in great location.

October 2014 - 7 Night Western Caribbean (Galveston Roundtrip) Cruise on Navigator of the Seas

10/2014 RC Navigator of the seas

Nice ship since renovations.  In fact....excellent ship in all respects for the price.

Although we have done this itenerary before, we wanted to try RC.  We found the food, entertainment, rooms, casino and staff very nice.

Great value for the price paid.  If you go cheaper you will have a very bad experience.  You can pay more and the food and entertainment may be a notch above however, all in all the ship and the rooms are very nice.  Service is great.

Balcony room floor plan is the best.  We have seen other arrangements on other cruise lines but this arrangement is the most comfortable and spacious (sofa and desk are near door and bed near balcony).  Dinner attire is a bit much for Caribbean cruise in our opinion.  Having "Formal Nights" is not our 'thing' when cruising.  We do like to wear slacks and 'Polo' type collared shirts to the dining rooms or upscale outlets however, wearing a tie or coat & tie is a bit much for us. We have noticed the newest improvements to the dining experience on RC is where all ships will eventually have  'anytime dining' with 3 or 4 outlets instead of 1 main dining room (although all are inclusive with the cruise, each has a different theme, and one is more formal every night).  This seem to be the trend for most cruise lines except the 'Luxury' brands.  The food is above average and variety is good.  It was nice to have miniature golf, flowrider, and ice rink.  Ice show was entertaining but not spectacular by any means.  The casino was nice and the staff very helpful (a little 'smokie' but not overwhelming).  The entire layout of the ship including the atrium (Royal Promanade) was well thought out and not congested.  Evevator service was a little slow most of the time.

First time cruisers or cruisers from Carnival will be very impressed.  Experienced cruisers will find it a great value for the price.

Norwegian Gem

September 2014 - 7 Night Canada & New England (New York Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Gem

09/2014 NCL Gem

Found the ship a little 'tired'. Organization"O.K." as on other NCL cruises however, considering we departed from NYC, it was good.

Entertainment was poor, food above average.  Service good.  Balcony room was average.  Go for the ports....not the ship.  All-in-all it was o.k.

First timers will be satisfied to impressed.  Experienced cruisers will rate as C+, like we did.  Nothing to really complain about.....just not anything to rave about.

I would write more but each category or topic would end with 'it was O.K.'

Boston, Newport, and Bay Harbor made the trip worth while.

We have sailed on NCL many times and I will in the future, but probably not this cruise.

March 2014 - 7 Night Eastern Caribbean (Miami Roundtrip) Cruise on Norwegian Getaway

03/2014 Getaway Eastern Caribbean

Great new ship with innovative design. Balcony room had nice bath and great lighting in the room and bath.  Cagney's steakhouse had outside dining tables which were nice.  Entertainment was A+.  Illusionarium was wonderful and well worth the cover.  The Theatre show LEGALLY BLONDE was exceptional for a cruise ship.  Casino was clean, open, not smoke-filled, and had an extremely helpful staff.  I was most impressed that NCL put major money into venues offered for those that wanted to enjoy them......and not increasing the cruise cost to all.  (I hope this works out for the cruise lines).  We paid for the illusionarium twice and enjoyed it immensely.  Also spent heavily in casino.  We did not frequent the lounges much or attend the 'wine musical'.  Since all these activities are "PAY-AS-YOU-GO", we paid for what we enjoyed and did not pay for others.  It gave us the feeling we did NOT have to 'do it all' since it was included' in the cruise fare.

Finally I must say, as experienced travelers, we did not feel NCL was aiming to 'nickel-n-dime' us at every corner as often heard.  We felt we paid for the normal "included" items on a fabulous ship and any of the "extra's" would be additional and OUR decision.  If your budget limits you, or some activities do not interest you, you will not feel "left out".  There is more to do on this ship in one week than you can imagine.

As we have done the ports on this cruise many times in the pas,t and have friends & favorite itineraries,  I limit my comments to the ship.

Ship ad bold, new, interesting design.  Bath in Balcony room was different.  Arrangement divided.  We liked it, other had mixed opinions.  You should look up the floor plan if this could be an issue.  Room was well lit, had soft lines.  Entertainment was superb.

Had many "optional" items in every category for those who wanted "more".  Theatre show with "BLUE MAN GROUP" was exceptional for a cruise ship.  Other shows were top notch.  Upscale dining options were 'upscale' and worth the cover.

My advise:  Anyone who likes cruising should experience this ship.  No matter what ports and/or accomodations, you will find this this ship exciting.

READ YOUR SHIPS "DAILY" with respect to what level is to be used for disembarking (they can change from port to port). Get a map of the area from the first "information" booth you see. Can be very nice if you or friends return to this port in the future (also a free souvenir).
