The Cruise from Hades
Hubby and I have cruised several times with different cruise lines., most recently on the Norwegian Pearl AKA The Cruise from Hades.
A large percentage of passengers who boarded were sick, hacking and sneezing everywhere. Needless to say, both hubby and I have been sick since our arrival home. The $2,000 price tag of our mini-suite included a septic system smell that continuously permeated throughout our cabin. We had to keep the balcony door open which allowed smoke to come in, also on a continuous basis, from other balconies. Mind you, NO SMOKING is allowed in cabins or on balconies, but this was not enforced. The balcony floor was sticky and urine-smelling until rain somewhat cleaned it. The bottom sheet of the bed was actually a top sheet that continuously worked its way up and out. Gummy Bears and toy pieces were strewn about the room from prior tenants. Old soap from prior tenants was left in the shower. The rug was wet throughout the trip and smelled like Windex, another reason we had to leave the balcony door open all the time. We couldn't even go to the pool as all non-smoking areas were filled with smokers. Again, no smoking was not enforced.
The "supervisor" in charge of the servers in the Garden Cafe was a real [redacted]. He reamed them out in front of the passengers, and we seemed to be in all the places he was reaming. Often, he would tell the server to remove food as it had been there too long and could make passengers sick. Mind you, we had this same food on our plates when he said that. On every other cruise we've been, we never saw the room steward. On the Norwegian Pearl, room stewards were a continuous presence in the hallways with their carts along with dishes that littered the hallways as well.
This cruise was just simply a nightmare -- truly a horrible experience we will not soon get over. Norwegian Cruise Line needs to be made accountable for its poor conditions. The food is mediocre, few workers speak or understand English well, and we resented paying a 15% gratuity on every little thing as service was mediocre. We are currently trying to iron out duplicate charges on our credit card. Even though we received a final statement, Norwegian picked out charges already included in the total and listed them separately on our credit card. Oh, and Dan the Man, Cruise Director…Really?
