February 2005 - Grandeur of the Seas to Caribbean - Western
I was on board the Grandeur of Seas with my family of 6 when the pilot crashed into the port of Costa Maya. This crash caused a 26 ft long, 5 ft tall hole into 3 state rooms. Without making any sort of statement to its passengers that the ship crashed they attempted to cover it up to passengers getting off by having 3 men stand in front of the hole saying "keep moving, no pictures" was ludicrous (most passengers didn't feel the impact of the ship/port)!
The next day, we were told that they had an engineer team there to determine if it could be patched and sea worthy. If so, you had to wait until the repairs were done. If not, you had to get shuttled back to New Orleans. We had to be shuttled to return to work and our children back to school. This was on the 4th day of the cruise. We lost half of our vacation in a family suite at the rate of approximately 6k for all 6 of us. RC compensated every room on the ship $250 towards onboard charges. After over a dozen attempts to get ahold of RC and request that they compensate us somehow for our lost vacation, no response was received (letters and calls to director/lead customer/passenger relations, CEO, COO, etc.). We were told by a call center representative that the $250 onboard credit was all we'd receive.
This experience was horrible, from the lack of prorated refund or replaced cruise due to human error to our chartered plane shuttle reeking of urine not to forget the fine bologna sandwiches and cold fries served in a Dixie cup while we waited the 3 hours for our plane to get there, and including the 2 bed, single hotel room they tried to put my family of 6 in when we returned to New Orleans after the crash. The list of horrors goes on and on. This was the worst customer treatment we've, ever, ever received or heard of!
Would you you feel comfortable knowing you were on a ship that has such a repair in its side? Would you be happy with the same sort of customer experience we had?
I dont want want you to be disappointed when you could also receive such poor treatment. Try a different cruise line!
