September 2015 - Statendam to Alaska
My wife and I enjoy travel and there are many places we want to see. We approach each place that we go for the first time as if it will be our one and only visit there. This 14-day cruise aboard Holland America's ms Statendam was the way to see as much of Alaska, its beautiful terrain and wildlife, etc as possible in the easiest manner possible.
We had never cruised before. Our friends were helpful, but April Blas from Delta Cruises was great. She helped us select this cruise, and then guided us first-timers through the in's and out's of cruising. If this is your first cruise, I suggest you let April or someone like her, be your guide. There is a lot of deciding to do.
Holland America was superb. The ship, the crew, the amenities were all top notch. The Statendam was a good size: small enough to get into some ports that the bigger ships can't call, but large enough that she handled the ocean nicely. We never waited in any lines aboard ship and our time was fully occupied with wonderful things to do. Food was excellent. Purrell hand sanitizer dispensers were everywhere. Ship was very clean.
Of the 1200 passengers on our cruise, most were 50 years of age or older. Holland America accommodates people with disabilities very well. There were only a handful of children on our cruise and given the age of most of the travelers, that worked out well. If you are looking for rock wall climbing, skeet shooting, jogging decks, on board zip lines, etc. etc. look for another cruise line. This one fit us very fine.
I don't know if we will ever go back to Alaska, but we will cruise Holland America Lines again.
